It was originally meant for cinema but from what I can gather they needed more money to film more scenes (and more kills) so set up a deal with DirectTV.

Talk is that Lionsgate have no faith in the film as slashers haven't done well in theaters recently

Yeah by recently I meant last few years

Final Girls was a comedy slasher that was meant to do well and get a full cinema release but the studio dumped it on dvd even after it did really wellat festivals. It is seen it as a flop even though it deserved better. Most get released direct to dvd because of Scream 4 being such a dissapointment for the studio
