Well that's a lie. He could pronounce his name perfectly. He purposely chose to mispronounce in an attempt to be funny. He admitted that himself.

Not racist in itself as he did the same with a couple of names but stuff like this shows extreme ignorance in cases, such as when Jackie Budden insisted on not being able to speak properly and call Shilpa "Shumpa". Not a hard name, but because it's a "foreign" sounding name they think it's not worth bothering saying properly and just say stupid words instead.

I think Danan was just trying to make an innocent joke in this case, but from Karthik's perspective you can see how that would be tiring.
