Again, I'll explain in simple terms - the humour of dark comedy comes not in the 'HAHA he insulted that disabled kid', it's in the shock factor of 'I can't believe he just said that'. Hence why most laughs at one of his (or other comedians of his ilk) gigs are preceded by 'oooohs'. Also, the joke in question was not actually about Harvey, but about Katie Price parading her children around in the public eye. He's explained this on several occasions. The difference between you and I Chuff is that in the ~real world~ I don't make or agree with genuinely disparaging and nasty comments that have malicious intentions towards real people. Jokes are just that - jokes. They are not serious comments, the people making them or laughing at them aren't being serious, they are flippant and nothing else. Faux outrage over a comedian making jokes but having no issue with racially insensitive remarks makes no sense. Your priorities and morals are completely misplaced. Finally, you've said in this thread you like Chubby Brown, a comedian whose material is largely rooted in racial material. Now I have no issue with this, a joke is a joke, but you can't be outraged over one topic and not the other. What is it, homophobia, racism and transphobia are fine but leave the poor disabled alone? Ridiculous and patronising. |

A person can't act offended and then in another thread choose to dish out vile comments about grieving widows or have a suspicious trend of hating most women of colour that appear in Reality TV shows. Last edited by Tom4784; 19-11-2017 at 09:14 PM. |

The difference here is that Chuff's comments are deliberately and intentionally malicious - she is not joking. Frankie Boyle is a comedian, doing comedy up on a comedy stage. Jokes are not serious remarks that are intentionally malicious, and his particular brand of comedy works on the shock factor of the joke, not what he's said per se. To be outraged over a joke about a disabled person but have no issues making disparaging sexist/racist comments oneself is complete double standards, and shows that one's priorities are totally misplaced. Also, to decry that racially insensitive costumes are 'just a bit of fun!!!!' and any criticism is 'PC gone mad' but to then have an issue with a comedian's jokes which is precisely the same thing, is all kinds of absurd. For the third time in this thread, the only person with a lack of morals is the one who finds pleasure in mocking the appearance of people they've never met, and going so low as to criticise the recently bereaved. That's the very definition of morally bereft. But keep trying! |

Allowing racism/homophobia/transphobia to slide and brushing it off as 'PC gone mad' but making out the disabled must be protected at all costs is all kinds of patronising. There are many disabled people, Stephen Hawking included, who have no problem being used as the butt of dark humoured jokes. Quote:
Calling women wh*res and mocking the bereaved, and thinking a bit of casual racism in a costume is all fine and dandy cause 'it's a laugh' and 'it's PC gone mad' but then having a problem with a comedian making jokes about the disabled is both riddled with hypocrisy and also pretty patronising too. |
