Obviously we’re not a large enough demographic to base their business decisions on but still
Me too. I like the chaos of BB but too much producer interfering has ruined that too. The 'scripted' shows offer a more structured narrative but I prefer the chaos.

If you think about it:

BB14 was like the BB7 of C5, in that production started to up the ante by having more twists, but both were successful, so they got away with it.

Then BB15 was like CBB5, in that it tried to replicate the success of the former series but it backfired as the producer's decisions ended up having a negative effect on the series (putting Jade back in led to the race row and giving Helen a pass to the final made the series more negative and draining)

BB16 was like BB8 in that it started of well, but the ratings were lower than usual, so they introduced unnecessary twists as a way to increase ratings, but that ended up hindering more than it helped and the ratings got worse.

BB17 was like BB9 in that it was a step in the right direction after a slight decline.

BB18 was like BB10 in that the ratings fell even further and the show was beginning to feel stale. This is also when speculation of the show being axed began, just like it did at the time.

Exactly. I don’t understand the appeal with structured reality shows as books and movies and other tv series exist all of which have structured plots with way more dynamic and three dimentioal characters that go trough trials and tribulations, instead of Kylie Jenner having an entire show to moan about how hard it is having to use Instagram. Big brother is raw and chaotic which is why I hate it when they do those tasks that artificially create tension and drama

It's become too trashy, it does not appeal to the wider general public. A combination of bottom of the barrel reality stars and a strong focus on sex is what has made the show trashy and in turn has lost the show viewers.

They're cheap to make and unfortunately shows like BB get squeezed out of the schedule

I think the main reason is it isn't viewed as a cool and relevant show anymore I don't know anyone else that watches it apart from me so it just hasn't been given a chance in recent years there are other shows that take people's interest

But has it really been axed or is it just speculation

Because this cbb series has been really good

A lot of it’s speculation there hasn’t been any official statements yet

But I agree with big brother not being relevant anymore literally non of my friends watch it or even hear about it

It’s fatigue

Nobody wants to watch 3 series of an already dying franchise a year

But over the past year or so, interest and ratings seem to have sunk even lower. BB just about scraping a million viewers (sometimes even less) and CBB averaging almost half of what it was a few years back. Compare that to the earlier C5 series, where civilian BB could comfortably average 1.6m+ (almost 2m in BB14's case) and the renaissance of CBB, which saw an increase in tabloid coverage, as well as ratings above 3m for CBB13/15.

Granted, C5's performance doesn't hold a candle to C4, they were doing somewhat well a few years back. Now it's not even their highest rated show anymore.

What went wrong?

A TV guide fella on BBC NewsHD
at 4:26PM
said its Ben Frow
who wants its gone.

Also the Presenter stated Ch5 Statement
saying it all speculation.

As the Contract is up this year with Endemol.

I think it's a mixture of things.

• Bad editing and only showing one housemate endlessly. This is happening with Andrew this year.
• Silly twists, it's hard to root for somebody when they could go without you having any say in it. I don't vote much anymore because if I did and the housemate I saved got backdoored days later it annoys me
• General overkill, 2 CBB's a year is a lot along with the normal show. I bet most who gave up on the show started missing the summer CBB because civvy BB had knackered them out.
• Lack of live feed. I think a lot of viewers feel manipulated by the edit quite frankly.
• Trash winners: Bear, Helen and Jason.
• the public. How many times have we lost fascinating housemates over dull one noters who add zero to the house dynamic? the public vote sucks.
