Wasn't talking about civil rights - was talking about 'textbook on homophobia'.

In what way did Ann try to remove the basic human rights of a person based on their sexuality? By not approving gay marriage? Why is she not entitled to believe that? Like I said - a lot of her reasoning is because of her religion, and the fact those who opposed it have NOT all been jailed.

As for disowning family because they share different (MAJORITY actually I hasten to add!) views to you, well, that's your prerogative. Sounds very controlling and like a dictatorship to me though! Wasn't that how Hitler started...?

Her religion should have had nothing to do with her political stance. And if it did she should never have been in politics.

And in the extreme surcumstance thst my family would support someone like Trump then i think as a gay man I’d have every right to disown them.

People might have voted Trump because they didn't like Hillary, or they might be lifelong Republican voters who don't pay attention to the party leaders, or they might just have found him funny on the Apprentice and not care about politics, or they might have bought the daft yarn spun about how Hillary was sick and dying.

People of faith in this country have the same rights and freedoms as gay people. It might surprise you to learn that. There are Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Christians... all kinds of people in Parliament. And it was David Cameron, a Christian, who pushed through legislation to legalise gay marriage, much against the views of a significant part of his party membership.

And you would disown your family for political views, but expect them to support you 100% in your own views.
