I can't speak for anyone else, but if I said 'I identify as bisexual/curious' it'd be because in reality it's actually a lot more complex than that and also ~I don't really like labels~, so it's just easier to navigate most people to the easiest to understand term rather than sit there and try and explain the complexities of something no one other than me cares about, or get into a debate about the usefulness of categorising sexual preferences. Just you are saying you 'identify' as a label, rather than are

'Identifying as' to me means you are saying you are something you are not. Like..I don't identify as human, I am human. I could identify as a cat, as I am not a cat. If that makes sense.
