Horrible story. If there's any cold comfort for her family it's that it sounds like she died very quickly, he slashed her neck and she would have passed out almost instantly. The really horrifying thing there, though, is that if she had 75 different stab wounds, that sort of implies that he carried on stabbing long after she was dead. What has to be going on in a person's head for that to happen? I mean obviously, to kill at all, but just to continue hacking away afterwards.
It's a really strange case in that the attack itself does sound out of control / frenzied - but then, he calmly went out and bought a variety of weapons on the day, tracked her down, and exercised next to her before carrying out the killing in the car park. Which totally goes against the idea that it was a frenzied / emotionally driven or unplanned attack.
I'd almost be attempted to assume that he coldly executed her by cutting her throat and then deliberately carried out the "frenzied stabbing" to make it LOOK like he was out of control when he wasn't.
