I do understand the arguments in bold, but I'm not sure I agree. If anything, people having to admit to or use their old usernames would be able to prove they've changed even more so than if they weren't. If you knew it was them, and you could see they were changing, that seems a lot better to me in demonstrating someone's moved on than pretending they don't have a clue what you're on about. Stacey for example I don't think has ever denied she's back on the forum, but she has been remorseful and I'm sure most people would agree, has integrated herself well again.

It's baiting because if everybody knows which previously banned member you are and you continue to pretend otherwise, that is undoubtedly going to rub people up the wrong way - particularly if there's ill feeling there. If you just went 'yeah, it's me, sorry for what happened before, hopefully I can prove I've changed' then I'm sure many people (maybe some through gritted teeth) would be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't think lying helps anyone.
