My point being that Horror Films have to work four times as hard as any other genre to get an Oscar nomination.
I mean look how many average Drama Films about a man and a woman that fall in love that get nominated every year.

Get Out, IT and the Babadook have done a lot to revitalise the genre beyond the 'throw a bunch of pretty faces in front of the camera and throw gore at them' approach. Those drama films get nominated because they are well made, well crafted pieces of cinema for the most part. Saw Part 53 simply doesn't cut it. |
