Default What Would You Do 3.

You are with friends at a corner table in a cosy, candle-lit little bistro when in walks an obviously deranged man wielding a knife but seemingly having no other weapons.

He stands with his back to you shouting loudly in Arabic including the words "Allah Akhbar" so he is patently a 'terrorist'.

He stabs a nearby seated customer and continues to slash at him.

Near you is a very heavy solid brass floor candlestick - you glance at it then at the terrorist's back.

Do you:

a) Pick it up and smash it across his head until he falls to the ground?

b) Tell your bigger, stronger mate to smash the terrorist with it?

c) Do nothing and pray that the terrorist does not kill you?

d) Just try to flee?

Honest answers please - though I realise that it is impossible to really KNOW what any of us would really do in such a situation - I' feel sure that I would do a).

I would like to think I would take action but it would definitely depend on other factors.

I would like to think I would do A,but in all honesty,I would probably just freeze or try and flee,or pray he wouldn't kill me,that urge to survive would be paramount, you wanted honesty Kirk.

I would flee and call the police once I’m in a safe area away from the bistro.

Oooh, that's tough Kirk. The fight or flight instinct would kick in so guess its which is stronger. I think flight would be in this situation as he was attacking a stranger but if it were a member of your party or family then fight.

Yes, I agree with Annie- the fight or flight instinct would kick in and we never really know how that will affect us until something really happens.

I'd like to think I'd be brave enough to try to stop the attacker but, if I'm totally honest, I think I'd flee and call the police. However, as I said, we don't really know and I might surprise myself, as if I've ever seen anyone hitting someone else in the street I have always shocked myself by telling them to stop.

I don't know, if he had his back to me then maybe the instinctive response would be to take the opportunity to attack him, I don't think it's something you'd really think about and it's hard to say what your instincts would be though, I've never been in a situation like that.

Well I'm a big tough guy, so I'd just give them a couple of slaps and pin them to the ground, until our boys in Blue arrived.

Since I know what's it's like to shoot another human being and smash a brick into someone else's head and fight some one with a knife, I would choose a in the blink of an eye.

brain him with the candlestick whilst at the same time noting if the push-up rod was waxed up as they tend to be (you can usually free them with a hairdryer). The cork bit around the rod tends to perish as well

this is a flight or die situation and like to think I would do the first thing but when fear sinks in we all don't no how to react and the body does not always work as logical as of shock.

great topic for debate kirky my baby.

Surprised you did not give an insurance value to replace said candle stick.

But maybe A if I had a clear shot at his head and felt confident enough that he'd at least fall to the ground after the hit. I'd also run as soon as making contact though.
