I agree, Kaz. I remember the very first episode in 'Black and White' just before Christmas in 1960. I was a little kid and my brothers and I were all laid on the floor in the front room of our crumbling red-brick terrace sharing Fish 'n Chips in newspaper (with lashings of salt and vinegar and bread and 'Echo' margarine ) all eagerly waiting for Corrie to start.

When it did; WOW, how different and realistic it was. So typically Northern and true-to-life.

The characters were wonderfully drawn and superbly acted: Ena Sharples - the wonderful Violet Carson - being our favourite.

Coronation Street was OUR street and in our street, we had a REAL person who mirrored all the wonderful characters.

I wish they would play it all again right from the beginning.
