So the UK doesn't have freedom of speech anymore?

I doubt it. If it got any attention, it would probably garner more praise than critisicm.

I applaud this woman for saying what she believes even if her beliefs may be inaccurate and she may be drugged or drunk at the time. There's one thing that annoys me more than racists who speak their minds and it's the thought police. BTW, I'll bet you 80% of the people in the UK secretly sympathize with a lot of what the woman is saying.
Oh dear.

I'm pretty sure that free speech wasn't considered a fundamental right so that we could allow people to racially abuse others on a train.. it isn't about opposing free speech, it's about opposing racism. Still I'm not necessarily saying she should go to prison but it's just pathetic to refuse to condemn her as you seem to be doing Liberty4eva and to feebly defend her on the basis of "free speech"

"Abuse" is a hard word. If she was getting out of her seat and shouting in the faces of all the blacks then I think "abuse" might be more accurate. She was just sitting in her seat and raised her voice from time to time.

I haven't really condemned the things she's said because everyone else will and I don't take the messenger seriously. She sounds drugged or drunk.

I tell you what. Watching the video my first instinct was to laugh at how much of a fuss all this was making. I look at it like the woman was embarrassing herself and not "abusing" anyone. If anything I was more worried about HER safety as a few people around her seemed to be giving vibes that they'd like to go over to her and strangle her. A couple of them seemed to be thinking about it. The people who over-react to this stuff and think she should be thrown in prison are the ones that disturb me.

Oh, England England England. You once ruled a quarter of the world's people and now I sometimes wonder if you even rule your own backyard. It seems you have to walk on eggshells when it comes to dealing with people from other parts of the world.

Amusing that you make yourself available for a UK forum then .... didn't your own forums want you? Or perhaps there aren't enough bridges in the country in which you reside? So many questions, not enough answers.

Telling people to go back to Nigeria (or whatever she was trying to say) isn't abuse? Okay then

TBF. She showed her ignorance the minute she opened her mouth and began speaking.

I don't think many people on this thread realize this but if you do not have the freedom to say unpopular things, then you don't have freedom of speech at all. It's the unpopular speech that needs to be protected, not prosecuted. And people seem to differentiate saying racially unpopular things with unpopular things in general like they're two different things. Unpopular speech is unpopular speech whether it be about race, politics, religion.

The only reason why I keep going on and on about this is because the woman was arrested for doing relatively nothing. It's not her fault that people around her are so thin-skinned. The worst thing that should have happened to her is the train banning her for making their other customers uncomfortable. She certainly did not deserve to be arrested and CAN NOT BELIEVE people here agree that she should be behind bars.

The key word in Liberty's post was "deserve", they were simply disagreeing with the law

Yeah I don't think saying "the Law says this so it is right" is much of an argument, and I also don't necessarily believe this is the sort of thing that should be dealt with by chucking her behind bars, it's more your disregard for the woman's racism that I find objectionable

Well given that it is regarded as racist - and it is unlawful to be so here in the UK , clearly the Law must be right to say so - otherwise one part of your statement contradicts the other. If it was not the Law, then there would be no need for anyone to regard, or disregard this woman's comments - as it would mean not a thing.

My statement doesn't contradict, I was just making a point regarding your dogmatic appeal to the law - because the laws say it is so, it must be so, and any opinion that goes against the law is therefore irrelevant
