The Kids Are Alright, it's brilliant. The characters are well rounded and feel real, it's well worth watching

Ponyo, I loved it. Not my favourite Ghibli film but it's a very nice little film.

Carlito's Way. Hadn't seen it before, it reminds me of Grand Theft Auto Vice City, meets the blunt brutality of City of God. Shame about the ending (and certain elements of the soundtrack) but great film.

'22 Bullets' with Jean Reno. Very violent, not half as good as Leon, but good.

Land & Freedom - about a British volunteer for the Republic in the Spanish Civil War, it was really good although I'm not sure if it's meant to have subtitles in it, parts of the film are in Catalan and the version I watched didnt have any but it was on Ken Loach's official youtube page so I dunno if it's supposed to be like that :/

Where the Wind Blows
A good movie, but hard to watch. It's an animated movie from the 80's about a sweet old British couple who survive the blast from a nuclear bomb by building a crummy shelter in their home (they think the experience will be just the same as the blitz of WW2), but are unaware that they are slowly dying from radiation sickness. It is extremely moving and darkly comic all at once and yet I don't think I could handle watching it again. It makes Barefoot Gen (a similar movie) look like Astro Boy. See it at least once. 8.5/10

The most frightening war movie I've EVER seen and probably ever will and about as bleak as 'what if' scenarios get. Hard as it is to believe, this was made for the BBC at one of the scariest times in the Cold War (Reagan/Thatcher/Andropov as world leaders). It takes you through, in disturbing detail, the near-instant annihilation of Britain's infrastructure and civilization following a full scale battle between the Soviets and the West with thermonuclear weapons. Oh... and a couple of familiar faces from Coronation Street and Emmerdale pop up. I'd recommend pretty much anybody see this, unless you found 28 Days Later scary. 10/10
