I think I liked that, not sure yet though, think I need another watch.

In other news, according to the reliable Mr F, formerly of Gallifrey Base, now of Planet Mondas, this is a full synopsis for The Name Of The Doctor. if true contains huge spoilers for both that ep and the 50th:

Spoiler:

Clara is privvy to a conversation she'd rather not have heard. Something rings a bell in her head though. She is remembering the unrememberal!

The Doctor is forced to travel to Trenzalore (which isn't what you think it is!) with RIVER SONG and CLARA

They must enter something they know is a trap. The spring is the Doctor's name. We do not hear this, but River speaks it.

It is a trap laid by the GREAT INTELLIGENCE. He has ALL the Doctor's past trapped in a PANDORICA-like prison and only needs the eleventh Doctor to finish the job!

ALL the other Doctors feature. CLARA tries to save the Doctor, but is splintered in Time similar to the JAGAROTH - these are the "other" Claras met by the Doctor.

It ends with ANOTHER DOCTOR one no one knew existed, being released from a TIME LOCK
John Hurt.

This leads into the SPECIAL EPISODE.

I really liked the episode, it's nice that the Doctor has stopped looking at Clara as a mystery at last, and realised she's still a person. Also, I want to read the timewar book.

It was a good episode although the scavenger characters did their best to ruin it. Bad actors, bad characters and there was no point to them whatsoever. It would have been better to just make the episode a double hander between Clara and the Doctor.

I am in the minority here, as I think DW is getting steadily worse and more nonsensical than usual, and am wondering now whether to just give up on it. Pity as it started off with such promise with Matt, the nearest so far to the old DW's.

I've actually found it much better lately, I didn't like series 5 & 6, plus the show has been MUCH more nonsensical in the past, remember the farting aliens? Absorbaloff?

Moffet's done a great job with the series, Russell T Davies was fun but he constantly relied on the same tropes and deux ex machinas. Remember when the Daleks were behind nearly all the plots?

Three out of four of RTD's series relied on pretty much the same damn story. Never mind the fact that RTD relied on merely repeating phrases over and over to create an illusion of a story arc in each season (Bad Wolf, Torchwood, Harold Saxon, The Bees disappearing/Medusa Cascade). Moffat created actual arcs that aren't reliant on the godamn Daleks making an appearance at the end of nearly every series.

The Daleks are contractually obligated to appear in every series. The BBC don't own the rights to the Daleks.

But I agree with Dezzy, the RTD era did seriously overuse the Daleks. He brought them back over and over and wiped them out over and over.

I like how Moffat brought them back in series 5 and let them live, while also keeping them in the background. Even with AotD, he left them to it.

I agree with what Moffat has done, when Daleks do appear now, it feels like more of an event, its also good that in their last two episodes, it wasnt all about invading modern day Earth.

I agree with that, the worst part is the terrible ways he kept bringing the Dalek's back, again and again it was the typical "Oh, one of them survived and rebuilt the Dalek empire"

I don't like Moffat's Doctor Who tbh, he comes up with interesting plots but he can't seem to get a good cast together imo.

Rory and Clara are/was amazing o: I didn't like Amy Pond because of her character (not because of the actress).

Same. I hated her in S5. She did grow on me.

The Girl Who Waited is one of my all time favourite episodes

That's 3 stories, and during Russell's era, not including cameos, they were in a total of 5, you claimed they were behind "nearly all the plots".

They are contractually obliged to feature them every series by the Terry Nation estate.

I meant series plots as a whole, that much was pretty obvious. They were the big bads in three out of four seasons, you cannot say that isn't repetitive.

Yeah, but RTD overused them, how many times did we see Armies of Daleks flying around? An episode like 'Dalek' has much more impact that 'Journey's End'. 'The Parting of Ways' finale was also brilliant, as it was the first time we'd seen so many Daleks, but they got erased from all time, but then in turned out there was a prison ship full of them, but they all got sucked into a black hole, but the Cult of Skaro teleported to New York, then for once, one actually did survive, but then he went into the time lock, which is supposed to be impossible, and ressurected Davros, who was supposed to have died, but then all the Daleks died again, except for one ship....which FINALLY ressurected the Dalek Empire for good.

I much prefered The Master's episodes. But even those suffered from the "But one survived!" trope when he was ressurected in The End of Time.

Moffat has handled the Daleks so much better, there's actually an entire Dalek Empire in the universe, and they're not attacking modern day earth again, only to be thawrted by the giant reset button.

BBC Cymru Wales has announced that Brian Minchin is to be the new Executive Producer of Doctor Who, alongside showrunner Steven Moffat.

Brian Minchin is an Executive Producer in BBC Wales drama, currently working on The Game, a new Cold War spy thriller from Toby Whithouse for BBC One, and Wizards Vs Aliens, Russell T Davies’ hit show for CBBC. He has also worked as BBC Executive Producer on Dirk Gently and Being Human.

Brian produced the RTS award-winning and BAFTA nominated series The Sarah Jane Adventures, as well as the UK sections of Torchwood: Miracle Day and was Assistant Producer on Torchwood: Children of Earth.

Brian, who grew up in Aberystwyth, joined the department in Cardiff in 2005 as a Script Editor working on BBC One Wales drama Belonging, before moving on to network dramas Doctor Who and Torchwood in the same role.

Brian says: “I'm thrilled and excited to be joining Steven Moffat on a show that has meant so much to me over the years. I've watched in awe as Steven has taken Doctor Who to wild and imaginative places and I can't wait to get started on many more adventures with the Doctor.”

Faith Penhale, Head of Drama Wales, says: “I've no doubt Doctor Who will enjoy a very exciting time with Brian at the helm working alongside Steven. Since joining BBC Wales in 2005, he’s proved he has a fantastic eye for story and a sharp awareness of what makes a drama like Doctor Who unmissable."

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, adds: "When I first took over Doctor Who, Brian was there as script editor, and in the most difficult time of a new Doctor and a new era, was completely brilliant. We lost him to producing The Sarah Jane Adventures at the end of our first run. Rising talent keeps rising, is how I comforted myself back then - but now I am beyond happy that Brian has risen all the way back to Doctor Who, in his new role of Executive Producer. I look forward to getting hopelessly lost in space and time with him."

If I had had the trouble RTD had getting the rights to use them I'd use them every other episode, RTD was moderate.
