Purity rings are a gimmic

We have them already, they are called engagement rings and below that eternity rings

I will have to hunt them down again, but I remember some statistics that showed that those who abstained from sex before marriage had better relationships et al.

Certain contraceptives mentioned here are not 100% effective, where as abstinence is. If both the man and the woman abstain then many of these STD's will be stopped in their tracks along with unwanted pregnancies.

This is the truth that dare not be spoken because it flies in the face of some peoples desires to engage in actions just to gratify certain desires which could be resisted with self discipline.

The better relationships thing could easily be chalked up to personality though. Not to generalise, but a lot of people who abstain from sex tend to be ... boring and predictable? And thus remain quiet happy in there relationships. People who don't abstain on the other hand, i.e. the majority, are a much broader cross section of people many of whom are probably less religious and more on the carefree side of life.

Contraceptives work if you use them well. To say they don't work 100% really is clutching at straws. Used right, with education, they almost always work. The idea that the best way to prevent STD's is to simply not have sex is a bit ridiculous to most people. And it's obviously not going to catch on with the kidz any time soon. You know, this whole not having sex thing.

That being said, the education, development, and practice of safe sex is a far better remedy to prevent the spread of STD's than not having sex. Because in the real world, people are not going to stop having sex. Shame the church doesn't want to embrace it and play it's part in curbing STD's.

There's a risk that when I go outside, I may be run over, mugged, attacked, raped etc. To counteract that threat, I should just stay inside? I mean I don't really need to GO outside, it's just a desire, if I kept my willpower up I could stay inside forever. That is basically the explanation from abstinence. We can't wrap ourselves up in cotton wool, and avoid everything that may be a danger to us.

(PS. Apparently abstinence is not 100% effective if we are to believe the immaculate conception...)

Couldn't care less. If people want to hold themselves back on sex until they're married then good for them, if not, then good for them too.

Personally I would never do it as I don't see the point, but each to their own.

I don't agree with it, Like somebody else said what if you find out you're sexually incompatible? Sex is a vital part of a relationship and I agree with the 'Try before you buy' sentiment.

The whole idea that it'd a good way to prevent STD's and unwated pregnancies is ridiculous, good knowledge in how to use contraception and being safe is how you prevent it. Education is better then abstinance.

LMAO at this thread! WHo hell are you people to debate if its right or wrong to wait for sex until marriage, and to wear those rings?
If you want to have sex and "sample", like you put it, thats your business. Same as the people who decide to wait. YOu think just because they are abstaining, they dont know about birth control and other things? BEcause youre having sex, you think youre more educated than those people? This is not the 18th century.
Arguably we all know the only 100% way to prevent STDs is abstenance.
Fair enough most of you are atheist, dont believe in god, or dont believe in religions, whatever floats your boat. But dont go knocking the people who actually do, and try to get them to conform to your ways. Some peole do actually follow their religion, and believe in it. I am nowhere near these people, but I definitely commend them for what they choose to do.

And the stupid argument about its a thing of oPpression for women! WTF once more? It has nothing to do with gender whatsoever.

The way I look at it is it's an individual decision. If you want to abstain fine, if you don't then thats also fine

Exactly! What I laugh about is these people out here, posting like their way is superior!!! I have to sample before I marry someone!!! Give me a break! Chances are, most people who think like that, are the once who never get married, or end u divorced within a few years. It takes a lot more than sexual compatibility for a marriage to work. In fact if you think its vital, then thats when you are likely doomed.

Well, I would be one of the people preferring to sample before I marry but thats my choice! and I'm happily married as well. I do think sex is an important part of marriage though not thee most important part.

Also RE: Wildcat - I don't have an issue with people abstaining. It's a personal choice completely and does not effect me in the slightest what they decide to do.

I do have a problem with the people that preach to me that I'M wrong by having sex before marriage, and that it's impure to do so. I think sex in a marriage is extremely vital, but not solely important - along with a variety of other things it paves the way for an enjoyable marriage.

Sorry, but lets be real here. The whole compatibility thing is way over rated. sex, is sex, its not some great science where you really have to have the right partner and whatnot. Chances are if youre attracted to someone the sex is going to be good, I would say 90% of the time. Yeah, its very enjoyable, but how often can you say I had sex but didnt enjoy it, really?

Fair enough you dont want to be reached, but I dont think thats what these people who wear their rings are about, so I dont see how some posters, out here have any right to demean or mock in certain cases, what they are doing.

I strongly disagree with that wildcat. Especially if you're a girl, it is very easy to not enjoy sex if your partner is a "wham bam thank you mam" type!!

And again, I have no problem if people want to abstain that's their choice!

Maybe I'm just more particular than you, but I think there is such a thing as sexual incompatibility, such as if someone has particular niches in the bedroom, or preferences that go against their partners.

My original post about the educated of STDs and protection was mainly directed towards the US Education system which teaches abstinence in it's totality rather than contraception, and US is where purity rings are mainly worn. I have nothing against people wearing the rings, or choosing to stay abstinent.

Surely that can be said about any partner! Youre not gonna be magically in synch right away, and it always gets better in time.

And as for the whole teaching of abstinance? Who teaches abstinence? HOw long will that class be? Abstinence is best! Class over. Its a recommendation, not a teaching. And its the right one, because it is after all the only full proof method. It doesnt mean that they dont get sex education. Pretty muh everyone gets it these days.
I personally dont agree with it, at a cetain age. I think kids gets sex education way too young these days. imo it encourages people to have sex at ridiculous ages like 11 and 12. I think it should start much later than they do it these days.

A class consisting of teaching that abstinence is the only fool-proof method is not teaching about conception. I'm not saying that we shouldn't teach abstinence, but we should teach it alongside methods of protection too, if we just teach abstinence then when they do eventually have sex (whether it's within a marriage or before) - they may not be completely clued up about protection. This isn't just about people wearing purity rings, I mean all young people aren't taught properly.

And I agree people are taught it too early, but now the damage has been done that people are having sex at the age of 13 - we need to teach protection too. I don't think being taught at such a young age -encourages- sex, I think the media does that (shows like hollyoaks, eastenders, the oc or whatever - im not very up to date on modern shows lol).

Is that a polite way of putting him liking it hard and rough whilst she likes it gentle?
