It is to me. What is your definition of art?

That's not your definition, it's a generic quote containing an entirely abstract definition that was made more to sound nice than offer up a technical definition of what art is. But whatever, I'll play you at your own game :

So on what grounds is the picture in question not art then? Was there no collaboration between god and the artist on that one? How do you know this?

I think the majority of 'modern art' is crap...I mean, anyone can go out and stick a shoe on top of a plant pot and pass it off as art (which is basically what a LOT of the modern stuff is). But if people want to waste money on it, its up to them.

Anything can be considered art...just depends what your interpretation of 'art' is really...

An exaggeration I think. Here is some great modern art and literature.

You haven't exactly gone into great detail about why you created this thread in the first place.

Well if you explain what is great about your examples then that will answer your question

Why don't you explain to us all how you scoured the globe to see one hundred per cent of all modern art and poetry.

Why are Rothko, Breton, Bacon and Picasso not crap? Well apart from the fact that they have given me great enjoyment, I think it's only fair we give more recent works of art the benefit of the doubt and let them stand the test of time. Maybe I would expand on this, but I don't think I am obliged to explain myself when you have remained intentionally vague.
