Dunno about TT. And I get what you mean about Jay Z, but it's only cos R n B, Hip hop and that has become popular over there the last few years. He does not seem to have too much personality about him really, yeah he is a good artist, but he just does not have it all.

I think he's become more involved with the fans since the Glasto thing, I mean ive seen a lot more interviews and more commercially playable stuff.....wether that makes him a sell out to some extent im not sure....

I think that Miley Cyrus will be looked back on in years to come and be seen as a bit of an icon. Never has someone ruled the tween market, successfully drifted to the teen scene and then managed to have a contemporary, radio single worldwide. She's the most successful artist of the Disney genre and she really broke the mould for the Demis, Selenas, Ashleys, ect. of the world

That won't happen. Lady GaGa will do everything in her power to make sure thats she's still as successful 5 or 10 years from now. Her massive success so far is no accident. Back in 2008 Lady GaGa was just another underground arist in New York with a plan, 2 years, 2 sold-out WW tours and ten million records later she's the biggest thing in Pop. She is a very very clever woman. Her plan has worked out perfectly so far, I can't see her starting to fail anytime soon.

As I said before, GaGa is a paraphrase of Madonna. She can try keep herself in the spotlight, but it does not mean she will last. Yes she is a clever woman, hence why she has been able to draw everyone in to her apparent 'kookyness'. Let's see right, Pokerface, Bad Romance, Just Dance, they are just club tunes man, no meaning to them. She has to use imagery to shock. And maybe Madonna had a few scandles in the past, she shocked people, and her songs were also iconic. Who will remember Poker Face in 20 years time? There will be many more GaGa's to come along.

Music today doesn't allow for much personality - everything is produced and manufactured to conform with what the audience demands and all elements of controversy, bar one case I can think of (Gaga) are removed.

30 years ago the legends would freely party like mad, do cocaine, drink binges, get into fights - nowadays popstars wouldn't dream of doing **** like this. The only exception I can think of is Amy Winehouse.

In short: there's a lot less scope to stick out from the crowd and appear truly iconic and a huge character. As much as it pains me to say it - I think GaGa is the strongest candidate.

I guess the same could have been said about Britney at one time though, look what happened there. GaGa is a kooky dresser and makes catchy pop songs.

The truth is there are no 'greats' in popular music. The industry is driven by money and manipulating young listeners. An artist's success and influence rarely corresponds to their talents in this situation.

oh yes, I agree with this. I think she has quite a Marilyn Monroe quality to her, we'll look back in 20 years time and she'll be that wild child, face of a generation type.

Lily would never be a great. Florance has a better chance than her. I think what I was sort of getting at is there will never be another great, as why I said they are not amoung is. And however many albums you sell does not make you great, as I often have shoved upon me in these kind of threads
