Its not really about who won the sing off. Personally I think Mary won. Its about Dermot on Saturday night saying directly into camera 'You and only you will decide who goes thru to the final". Then we tune in on Sunday to find we've got a sing off and the judges will decide. The X-Factor website also implied there would be no sing off. What happened between Saturday night and Sunday night for them to suddenly decide to have a sing off?

Articles I have read as good as say that the producers decided late on Sunday as the show was going out. Who made this decision and why?

I'm just glad she went, I'd rather watch Cher then watch 2-3 more of the same performances from Mary. I don't really care if it's fixed or not, I don't vote and I'm not gonna care either way after next week.

no i want cher to beat one direction.

i agree with you about sending it to deadlock as it was both 2nd time in the bottom two,and it would have meant the public had the final say.

Mary repeated an old performance in the sing off. Seen it already! I remember certain members moaning when Cher sang Stay in the sing off.

and considering that it was Mary in the bottom two just last week(not Cher) and that Mary was not very good on saturday either I really don't know why you assume Cher got least votes this week. More likely Mary did!

because mary was on rebound and cher hit the bottom two before mary did,so its quite easy to assume cher came bottom of the votes.

yeah, very easy if it suits!

Cher's support is growing, Marys was sinking.

'assume'

Until the voting statistics come out nobody can say either way and it's just foolish to guess.

Sounds like your a member of the ABC (Anyone But Cher) Club!!!

Trouble is, Mary didn't turn the tears on as well as Cher. Same sort of thing happened to Gamu, Treyc, Paige, etc etc etc...........

To get a wee bit serious now..

..favourites or not there is, possibly, a 'confidence trick' happening here. Viewers are asked to pick up the phone and vote to get their favourite through and may be misled by that.
IF they really are to be 'completely transparent' as Dermot suggests then the advice to the viewers ought to clarify that you have to vote you fave - at least - the third last place.
(how can we phrase that better?)
Explain that you (the viewer) cannot necessarily vote your fave to go on. That they have to be voted 'past' 2 others.

The obvious problem is that x-million dump cash on X-Factor to get 'Mary' (or whoever) well ahead,
but,
see their 'investment' canceled-out.

Now this may be some 'short-term gain' for X-Factor when they see big-money Mary can make more money on tour or get her started on the Christmas Single,
versus,
the soda pop princess can make them more cash for a few weeks.
OK.
Having said that, they ought not be too surprised when, next season, there is a dramatic drop in phone voting.
(if there is?).

The show is utter horse sh*t anyway. Full of crap singers. None of them are talented.

Wagner was the only interesting one in the show.

I see Cowell is saying that when they have been down to the last 5 before, it has always been a sing-off. Has it? Didn't Ruth Lorenzo finish fifth (Vickers came fourth a week later, remember?). Ruth was booted out without a sing off if I remember right, Mr. Cowell.......

Mr Cowell has developed a very selective memory in this X Factor series, that selective memory does not remove the fact that certaianly this weekend by the X Factor website and Dermot himself no one one voting believed there would be a sing off.

As to him saying Mary and the acts knew there'd be a isng off on the monday that is utter nonsense, Mary said they were only told on the Sunday, then backtracked to Saturday very unconvincingly.

He is literally taking the public for fools this year and ALL he ever had to do was sit down and explain to the viewers on either X Factor or the Xtra Factor any changes to the format this year, accommodating just one more act in the final should not need to have led to all this confuaion, anger and misleading of the public, no way.
