Most people bought it because they find Matt 'sexy'. A million other men could have sung the same boring fucking cover that he did. People bought it because of the sex appeal and the fact that it's the X-Factor number one. It's become a national holiday pastime for goodness sake. The song itself is entirely unspectacular and humdrum. It just caught on through the relentless promotion and all the mentioned circumstances to the point where a tune you would under any other circumstances would never have considered became catchy to ones brain.

Listen to any piece of dirt for long enough and it will catch on.

It amazes me that people are entirely apathetic to how boring it has all become. Look at darling Matt's customary winners video. Boring shots of him against some abstract studio backround mixed in with slow motion black and white shots of him on the X-Factor or something like that. Same as every other bloody winners song. Where is the leg room for new creativity? Does it not bother you in the slightest?

He is a relentless bore who will be replaced by another relentless bore in twelve months time. Look at who he inheritid the crown from for fuck sake.

People need to get over it,Matt is popular for whatever reason as are all chart singers, and I repeat,IF someone brought out a Christmas song that was on a par with the greats,it would sell,it is an insult to people to suggest that just because they like an 'XFactor' song that they are apathetic, just as it would be insulting to say that people who liked 'your' type of music are apathetic and boring, one mans meat is another mans poison ,there are far more important things in the world to get stressed about than the Christmas number 1.

I'm just making points. What is it that indicated I am stressing out? You could at least properly respond to some of the points instead of just totally avoiding them and giving these bizarre blanket arguments and proverbs.

Just how do you know christmas songs have not already been released this year that are on par with 'the greats'? I am going to assume you don't exactly dig deep for your musical kicks, and as many great artists neither have the money nor lucrative platform to push their songs to airplay - the ones that can even be bothered because as Zippy alluded to the X-Factor bores have scared off a lot of genuine competition from even bothering - how exactly are you comftorable with making such wide assumptions?

If a great was released? If? You hear what is sent directly to your musical inbox. Very little else. Plenty of better songs than Matt's [in name only, of course] 'effort' were released this year. It's just that most people will never have heard of them because most people don't look for music. Music finds them. That's not an indictment of people or pop more a nod to the way the industry - and it's consumers - work.

So please ... stop pretending Matt won because it was genuinly the best thing going. It wasn't. It was an event and people love events. They are more than happy to buy into it and feel that collective sense of victory when 'they' play a part in helping Matt 'overcome' or whatever other jubilant adjective you care to use.

We've had 6 series of cheesy winning songs, I thought it was nice for a change. Afterall people will get bored of the overdone winning ballads.
