I'm convinced this is going to happen to me at some point this year when I don't know how to explain that I don't have enough money in German, which will be around 10 times more awkward. ~socially awkward~

Why not ask the cashier to suspend the transaction,(cashier if she knew her job should have offered to do that anyways) and then sod off home get extra money or bank card, come back and pay then take your shopping home?

Which store was it Vicky?

See if they have an online page where you can compliment or complain. In this case complain about the way you were spoken to by the cashier, using the words shoddy or abysmal customer service.

Make sure you do leave an email addy though as they will often send you a voucher to use in their shops.

It was easier to just put back the things we didnt need really. I had 2 pieces of steak that were like 9 quid, and a couple of things that were on 2 for a fiver in the top carrier bag, luckily

Plus its a bit of a fanny on because it would mean either waiting like an hour for a bus here then go back down, or pay a taxi each way.

Was tescos on chester front street.

And yeah thats quite a good idea actually. I complained about KFC in newcastle never having any gravy once(in quite strong words) and they sent me like 5 free meal vouchers...so this may actually turn out quite well for me

Edit. There seems to not really be an online complaints thing, but I found a site that has the email address of the CEO(whatever that is) and customer services...which would be best to send it to?

Chief Executive Officer. Basically man/woman in charge or everything.

But thinking about it I want a job in a supermarket now just for a lol and sit there at a till clearly judging and looking down on people. Would be so fun

OK, a few ways of going about it, you can use their get in touch with links on the Tesco website, You will get a nicely worded but really unhelpful reply from one of their overworked and underpaid Customer Service Advisors.

http://www.tesco.com/help/contact/contactus4.asp

Then there are a couple of normal addresses that you may find useful

Tesco Customer Service
PO Box 73
Baird Avenue
Dryburgh Industrial Estate
Dundee
DD1 9NF

Tesco Customer Service
Freepost SCO2298
Baird Avenue
Dundee
DD1 1YP

Or you can email their head office customer service team

customer.service@tesco.co.uk

Use the email first, then if no joy, include the fob off replies you get in a letter to one of the two addresses above.

If you still have no joy, will give you the Enfield Head Office address.

In all correspondence be polite and say garbage like you prefer to shop at Tescos and you always use ....... branch however following a couple of recent incidents (always say there has been more than one) the latest of which ....... (insert details of above incident) and then go on to explain how you would still like to shop with tescos however you do feel as if staff attitudes will deter you from doing so.

Basically you are saying this is the problem, what are you going to do about it and do you still want my custom?

And just because you get a letter saying they are looking it into it and they will get back in due course, or its store policy.... etc, any sort of fobbing off, go up alevel, the higher you go, they more they will "value" your custom.

Hmmm, I probably should have waited for your reply before I sent the email

Thanks, but if nothing comes of the email I think I will just leave it. I dont want to make a massive fuss over a one off incident tbh. Just with you mentioning vouchers (and me remembering the KFC incident) I thought it would be worth a shot at least

Nah they always give a standard reply to weed out the scammers, using the logic, if you were a hacked off customer and you got fobbed off you would send another complaint higher up the corporation not only about the first but also about being fobbed off.

Someone in front of me in the queue did a similar thing the other day he realised he didn't have enough money so ended up splitting his purchase over 3 credit cards taking him ages, I was in a hurry and was only buying a pack of polos

Don't they have a ciggy kiosk? As sometimes with just a few items it is quicker to pay for goods there. I have done so many a time or adviced other customers to, to save them continueing queuing at the tills.

I can usually work mine out in my head, excect for fresh fruit and veg, as my store has decided to do away with weighing scales

Another thing is, watch them scanning the stuff and check the receipt even if it holds them up, as many are quite often guilty of double scanning stuff, or their epos section doesn't put some offers on and they go through at full price. I can't believe how often that happens in supermarkets.

Thankfully I never forget my card but if that happened to me I'd feel so awful.
