No wonder, but not worth it, the cops have these hand-held computer jobbies that can tell them if you have an MOT and if insured the name of the insurer, takes them about a minute to find out if they stop you! They also have Number Plate recognition cameras that give the same info!

yeah, you really need to learn to sit on the fence a wee bit more !!

thanks to others who have confirmed that insurance rates for younger drivers can (and indeed do) reach up into the £000's brackets.

I think many people don't factor in all the different areas within an insurance policy that can make one hell of a difference - even one small accident for a younger, less experienced driver can drastically push the cost up.

I find that quite an average price for her age, i am 17 and passed in august this year,on the day i passed i was quoted £48,000 for a 1litre corsa 8 years old!!! However when my parents called their insurance company to see how much it would be for me on their policy and their car (peugeot 307) they said £2750, which for some stupid reason i agreed to and am skint every month as my part time job only just covers it lol
p.s. its not illegal if anyone thinks that, we checked with the company before we added me to policy

£48,000 on a Corsa?!

Not surprised its almost £3k on a Peugeot 307 though, theyre awful to insure

Astras aren't great to insure either! If she had a cheaper car I bet the insurance would be half that

Tell me about it. I moved from a 2 seater MX5, 4 years old, 2litre with a soft top, to a 3 year old 1.8 Astra - and I couldn't believe it cost me MORE to insure the bliddy thing!

Yeah true. She had a corsa. She's an only child and her parents split up so yeah they spoilt her with a 7 grand astra I think it cost and with 3 grand insurance. At a young age you should really only have a small car to run about in unless you have the money to burn.

But yeah insurance is expensive. I don't blame people who use public transport or wait a few years to get their own car.

Quite true IF you are riding around in their Peugeot 307 but if you are using the Corsa you are driving uninsured!

Yeah it's very pricey. I waited until I was 21 to have my own car and my own insurance. From the ages of 17-21 I was just a named driver on my parents insurance. But it gave me chance to save up and have a car I can afford on my own

If my insurance doesn't go down next year I will be well pissed off. I have never been in an accident *touch wood* but a few months ago they said women have to pay the same as men. Pffft.

Hilarious eh!!

Methinks that insurance company might want to review their systems - just a little bit eh!!

Think they all do mate, if they made one company that gave reasonable insurance to 17-21 year olds, they would get a very large % of 17-21year olds, and therefore an awful lot of money!

yeah, there is that, but there is a common misconception that young people especially male, are all boy racers, yet i have had no problems since i passed and consider myself to be a very safe driver, however in my 4 months of driving, i have seen 2 old people crash, i think the insurance companies are targeting/bullying the wrong people here!!!

Going back years ago: my own insurance went up unbelieveably when I purchased my first convertible (was brand new so knew it was going to be dear) : I phoned them up, said I'd been given a quote (a few hundred quid less - which I hadn't... I just wanted to see how they would react if I threatned to take my business elsewhere). Direct Line it was.

Guess what: soon as I mentioned it, they could beat it by £1.

Told them to (everso politely) ram it - if they were happy to try to fleece a long standing customer - I wasn't interested and I went elsewhere (and actually got it for around what I'd pretended to Direct Line).
