Default Alex's car insurance is £3000

Where does she live, what car does she drive and how many accidents has she had?

She has a 'new' / newish Mini.

If she's fully comp, given her age etc: it's hardly unsurprising.

Fully comp works out cheaper a lot of the time

If she was male I'd just get my head around it, but girls usually get about 40% cheaper

Fully comp does not work out cheaper.

There's clearly no point in explaining.

My insurance is due at the end of next month so I've been putting a hell of a lot of quotes through. Just 1 example with the same company:

Third party- £619
Third party, fire & theft- £615
Comprehensive- £246

I can remember when those quotes would have been reversed, probably you can, too.

Check this out:

http://www.moneysupermarket.com/car-...comprehensive/

And a quote

"And it is also worth bearing in mind that fully comprehensive insurance policies are often cheaper than third party fire and theft policies, so utilise our comparison tool to see if you can cut the cost of your premium and take advantage of the extra level of protection on offer."

for a female of her age, with very limited years driving experience, the value / age of her car, and I'll hazard a guess the car isn't garaged at night in a salubrious upmarket part of town - £3k is not out of the ordindary.

Were you lot not paying attention? She said her insurance was £1000 and it was £2000 for her trolley dolly training.

I thought that training was as well as the insurance? She said her mum helped pay for the training

Sorry but no way would her car insurance be £1,000

At the time she was 18yrs old. and they usually pay between £2-4k

I passed my test at the age of 31, and my first car insurance was £1700

A grand seems pretty reasonable to me for the coolest way to cruise around town, yes, this zippy convertible features shiny metallic wheels and black interior with signature zebra-print Barbie seats. What a fashionable way to roll! Ultra-sleek and sporty design. Comes with Barbie logo license plate. Also features holofoil headlights. Barbie Doll Not included. Recommended For Ages 5 Plus.

yes, but you are judging it on your circumstances. Not considering Alex's....for all we know she may also have quite a few points on her licence (more than you! )

Mine is only so low because I use my mums address (low crime area), have a high excess and never had an accident (which is why I trust myself with a high excess)
Again, see above.

I watched it again and she said she wanted to give her grandad back the car insurance money and that HE and her mum had paid for her training.

Must have missed that one and if so I stand corrected! If it's that high she must either be driving a high end car, or have loads of points on her licence!

Yes it was.

Nice to know that some of us heard what she actually said, rather than what we think she said.

Well I'd suggest you watch it again: I have quoted what she said, and referrenced the point at which she said it.

Many moons ago, when I bought a new(ish) metro (M) reg (just incase anyone thought it was one of those really oooold ones , I was quoted £1200 fully comp (car was only worth £7,500!! ) so went under my dads insurance until turned 21

Now, with 10+ no claims bonus, female, low risk area & with partner on, my fully comp is approx £350 (weirdly its cheaper if you have a partner on)

Anyway, this year insurance rose in excess of around 40%, so Im not surprised at all she pays £3000 (although I AM surprised she hasn't worked out a way round it instead and pays that)

All these "workarounds" will invalidate the policy if you get found out, and in the event of an accident they WILL try to find out if they are liable!

I didnt mean a blatant lie, I meant being put on an insurance policy of someone over 25 as a 2nd driver. Perfectly legit and acceptable
