I've been searching for like 5 years to find a horror film that I find remotely scary at all so not sure I can help with "scariest". I generally find them either boring, or funny .

The only media of any sort that has genuinely scared me in recent years, is a couple of sections of "The Last of Us". The first "Clicker" section, the first "Bloater" section, and one other part where you get rushed by a large group of runners all freaked my **** right out. I actually stopped playing for like 36 hours after the first dark Clicker section because I was jumpy as **** .

well there hasn't a scary horror movie recent years

only scariest thing is Alien:Isolation when the alien surprises you, by sneaking behind you

..I tend to go for scary, rather than gory in horror movies..the worst for me was The Strangers, I found that very disturbing just because things like that do actually happen, which adds an extra psychological thing for me...The Skeleton Key and The Ring definitely also...Let The Right One In, The Others..(which actually I think was just a 12 rating....)..but I found it quite spooky...Insidious, Orphan, 1408..(I was on the edge of my chair all of the way through that, just wanting him to get out of the room..)..Vacancy, One Hour Photo...(I'm trying to list all of the ones I've seen because they're all the most scary..)...

Yeah, that's why it creeped me out so much, that scenario happening is one of my big fears.

..it's the masks as well, I think Lostie...that thought of someone torturing human beings but you can't see any emotion at all because you can't see their faces, I find that so disturbing..and yeah, some people have faced similar things for real...strangers coming into their home, their place of safety and been put through such awful things before they were eventually killed...

I don't think I would even watch that movie, torture films like that make me really uncomfortable

Yeah definitely, everything about it is just nightmarish.

Spoiler:

Even down to never seeing the faces under the masks, and the only motive being "because you were home". One of the best movies at building a really unnerving atmosphere imo.

I heard negative reviews about The Strangers, it's worth a watch then?

Spoiler:

..also it was a true story I think..?...not what actually happened in the movie but that they did all just disappear from the house and some people, 'strangers' had been seen walking along the road away from the house...(I think that's what was said at the end of the movie but I'll have to check now....)..

...it is quite full of suspense Daniel, so if you like that in a movie I think you'll like it...

Well it's all subjective. As far as I know the reviews were mixed, some negative and some very positive.

I'd say it's worth a watch but someone else could very well say it's not, just depends on whether the concept appeals to you or not.

It's the sort of movie where, if I was watching it at home alone during the night and someone knocked at the door, I'd be terrified of going to answer it. It really plays on peoples' paranoia of this sort of scenario happening.

idk it just seemed like a bit of an anticlimax. It seemed like something bigger was going to happen. I suppose if I watch it again I might see it a bit differently

The Others, Wolf Creek, The Ring, The Orphanage & The Texas Chainsaw massacre are probably my favourites that genuinely leave you scared. There are tons more i like but they have more gore & leave you disturbed more than anything.

I hate The Strangers, never cared who lived or died and never really found the killers creepy, recon I could take the two girls out

Wolf Creek is a good call
Spoiler:

I really wanted Cassandra to get away though but Mick was very creepy. It's a shame they made him so annoying in the sequel

I'll say Jeepers Creepers is pretty scary, especially the first 40 minutes
