This is all such a mess, like a new story comes out everyday and by the end of the day the Chicago PD release a statement saying it's either not true or that it's been grossly exaggerated. I'm just gonna sit this one out until things are clearer... all I know rn is that the CPD is messy, the media is messy and Jussie is the biggest mess of them all.

It wasn't an unbelievable story to the police investigating it for weeks before the new facts came to light. If you think that you, a british person who has no connection to the Chicago police and thus no real knowledge of the inner workings of the case beyond what was being reported somehow had some sort of knowledge that trumped all that... Well, I don't need to state how ridiculous that would be, do I?

The only reason to doubt the story before the narrative changed after the 'attackers' were apprehended was because you didn't want to believe it, thus your biases swayed your thoughts on the matter.

Like I said multiple times, it was the details that made it unbelievable:
- him being recognised in passing when wrapped up for warmth on a dark night
- that some would-be lynchers were roaming the streets when the temperature was like -20' with a handy noose
- swanky Chicago neighborhoods are one of the farthest things from "MAGA country"
- that his phone he was speaking on was not stolen and his Sub wasn't ruined

Like I've also repeated, if his story began and ended with him being punched/pushed and called the n-word, no-one would doubt it.

As for the story itself, it's gross. Hopefully he gets dropped and recast in Empire and his career is finished. False claims will only give bigots validation in doubting victims and make it harder for genuine victims to come forward.

This story turned out to be just that a story, but let's face it, it just as easily could have been true. Racial and homophobic attacks are still far too commonplace and many will go unreported, probably more so now after this shower.

Having empathy for someone who said they had been attacked is now to be ridiculed? All this "I told you so" ****e, is just that....****e.

I hope Jussie gets dealt with quickly and seriously for false reporting a serious crime. Its low, whatevr his justification.

Possible motive uncovered:

Jussie Smollett was dissatisfied with his salary on Empire, prompting him to pay $3,500 to stage the alleged attack on him, according to police.

On Thursday morning, hours after Smollett turned himself in on charges on filing a false police report, Chicago PD had a press conference to lay out their case. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson opened up the proceedings with strong words, saying Smollett “took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote this career.” He further shared that the Empire star was behind the threatening letter that he had previously received and when that didn’t get the reaction he wanted, Smollett paid $3,500 to Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo, who he knew through the hit Fox series. Detective Edward Wodnicki then went through the entire timeline, going inside the entire investigation. Smollett will be going in front of a judge at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Gross, his current gig would have led to others, he would have likely had a good career in TV long after Empire ends had it not been for this. I hope the judge throws the book at him and highlights in their address the damage this crime can cause for victims of genuine hate crimes.
