Completely agree.

People will still blame the government if people refuse to take the vaccine in order to help the country (PS if people don’t take it it’s fine and it’s completely your decision, but also don’t expect the government to have to act on your decision.. I.e if people continue to die as they didn’t vaccine or end up on venticilators then tough luck, others shouldn’t live in poverty or suffer with mental health issues as a result of your decision imo)

I'll take the vaccine if it's tested and proven.

Im not sure I would get offered it, as I am in my early 20's so I doubt it but then again my job is basically working directly with the vulnerable so who knows.

I wouldn't want to be first in line but if it means I can help others I'd do it.

It isn't about not trusting the Science at all LT, it's about there not really being enough time to see what kind of longer term effects a new vaccine could have

I don't know, I would rather wait a year or two but that may not be possible, I'll just see what happens, people can barely plan a week in advance these days

I can understand reluctance with the vaccine in the terms of it supposedly only being effective on 90% of the population... but otherwise I don't see any room for scepticism. Has there ever even been a case of a vaccine being rushed out with adverse side effects? Certainly never on this scale, but even on a smaller one?

(And please don't unleash the anti-vaxxers, I'm open to real concerns but not going down the road of GOVERNMENT CHIPS, BLEACHING OUR DNA, EVERYONE GETS AUTISM hysteria)

I honestly don't remember a vaccine being rushed out like this before in my lifetime. There was the Swine Flu one and like I said a Doctor friend of my mother actually said he wasn't going to be giving it to his kids. Luckily that seemed to just die off and it never really became a necessity for everyone to have one.

***I am generally very Pro vaccine, I'm absolutely for a vaccine for this of course, I'm just a bit nervous about it because it was so fast coming out

90% effectiveness is actually quite high, despite what anti-anti-vax propaganda would have you believe (i.e. that 99%+ effectiveness is normal).

Anything over 70% should be good enough to trigger herd immunity, as it will push the R easily to under 1 which should be enough for the rest to more or less take care of itself. In theory.

Anything over 50% should also work, if combined with continued basic social distancing and hygiene measures.

If it's proven 100% safe, yes.

i don't think people being cautious of the vaccine is unreasonable, we all want to know that it won't cause any nasty side effects

its a good point, when we go to the GP, they shove some antibiotic at us which can have side affects but we take it anyway

Weeell it's rare that the GP would give you something that hasn't been around for several years AND that hasn't undergone years of testing before release - that's sort of the point. There are some meds with nasty side effects but usually you'd already have an illness that makes the side effects worth it whereas the Covid vaccine will be given to healthy people so it's not really the same.

The illegal drugs example of course, putting any illegal drug into your system is always going to be 1000+ times more dangerous than a vaccine... especially because half the time it's not just the drug, they're cut with all sorts of **** like cleaning products. There's been a recent spate of heroin being cut with cement powder .
