[The 39-year-old star spoke at the Los Angeles
court remotely by phone, dozens of fans
from the #FreeBritney movement gathered
outside to show their support with banners and posters,
listening to proceedings through a feed.

Giving a highly anticipated written speech
that lasted more than 20 minutes,
Spears alleged she had at one time been
sent to hospital involuntarily and that medication
had been switched without her knowledge,
and compared her treatment to that
of those who have been sex-trafficked.


The star also said she wants to marry her
boyfriend, Iranian actor and model Sam Asghari,
and have a baby, but the conservatorship
won't allow her to.
She told the court she is being forced
to use birth control against her will to
prevent her getting pregnant.]


[During the hearing, Spears claimed she was
forced to take lithium against her will
after rehearsals broke down for a planned
Las Vegas residency in 2019,
which was subsequently cancelled.
All she had done was disagree with one part
of the show's choreography, she said.

"I'm not here to be
anyone's slave," she told the court.
"I can say no to a dance move."]

[After a break in the hearing, Mr Ingham said Spears
had told him that now she has spoken
out on the record and made her feelings
on the conservatorship clear,
the star is in favour of keeping future proceedings private.

He also said he will discuss the issues of
formally filing for termination of the conservatorship
with the star and the introduction of
a private counsel to represent her.

Judge Penny said a decision on terminating
the conservatorship cannot be made until
the formal request is lodged with the court.

Stars including Mariah Carey and Halsey were
among those sharing messages of support
online for Spears after the hearing.

"We love you Britney!!! Stay strong," Carey tweeted,
while Halsey wrote: "Bless Britney
and I hope with my whole heart she is awarded
freedom from this abusive system.
She deserves it more than anything.
I admire her courage speaking up for herself today."]

The thing that makes the whole thing fall apart is that anyone with any experience of early-onset dementia can quite clearly see and hear that she does NOT have early-onset dementia.

I honestly reckon her dad ticked that box on the form without actually knowing what dementia is and then just had to run with it being true.

It seems like financial control doesn't just mean management of the finances she already has - it also means managing what she does/her work and "making money" which is utterly bizarre. Especially if they're saying she has a serious chronic (and in fact terminal) condition. Dementia prognosis is not good. Why on earth would they be sending her out to do more work, if their concern was for her health.

If you're just concerned about someone being responsible for their financial position and not able to control that themself, all that's really needed is control over the estate, the person given a reasonable "allowance" from their estate to do whatever they want with (without access to the bulk to risk bankrupting themself) and a requirement that they co-sign any contract or legal document (to keep them protected from making poor "big decisions" and from scams).

That's not uncommon when people are vulnerable; mainly for that last part (keeping them protected from scammers who will take advantage). But day to day spending and living? Should ALL still be up to them unless they are profoundly disabled. In this case, she quite clearly is not, and they don't consider her to be either, because they've had her on TV and doing shows!

I wondered that honestly. People use "demented" to mean "unstable" and I suspect he thought that's what "dementia" means. "Someone who can be a bit unhinged".

It's heartbreaking hearing she can't do things like have a baby or go to the doctors without permission. forcing her into therapy with someone she has no trust in and feels vulnerable even travelling to go see is repulsive.

Her father needs jail, I don't think it's a stretch to say he's mentally abused his daughter all for money, he is nothing but a parasite. all those involved ore who benefited from this should be ashamed.

My heart broke when she said she just wanted to have the chance to have a baby or let her boyfriend take her out in his car. She's 39 and shouldn't have to ask permission to do these things.
