They waited until after 8am which is the considerate thing to do

Although I only potter about really.
As I have some guys who come to do the real garden work.

I would not have machinery going though, maybe lawn mower but that would only be for an hour or so.

In rusti's case, if I knew she was having family and/ or friends for a day in the garden as in a BBQ.
I'd not want to, out of consideration want to spoil their day.
The guys who do my garden also would never be there outside a normal weekday.

Of course Joey...many people work Mon-Fri and do that sort of thing at the weekend...but mowing your lawn does not take more than an hour unless you live on a large plot of land where you wont be heard anyway

I didn't know it was against the law on a BH? It might be different here in Scotland

The thing is, people complain when gardens are overgrown and when stuff like scaffolding is up etc.. You can't please everyone.

No one is complaining about gardening being done or having scaffolding up/down…the debate is about when is the right time to do it.

Yes they should be more considerate. And it's bank holiday as well.

Also I just googled as I was curious and although it is ‘prohibited’ to carry out noisy work on Sundays or bank holidays it says there is no actual law against it?

Depends what you classify as noisy…

It did come across as extremely inconsiderate.
Even moreso with the results of the work in progress spilling over into rusti's area.

That doesn't happen with good professional working and it shouldn't do so either.

Hope your week goes better than yesterday rusti.

The law says you must not use power tools on bank holidays. What's so difficult to understand?

Tbh they must be cowboys when we put our last place up for sale we had some overgrown trees cut back, the guy who did it, told us to let the neighbours know what day he was cutting, and that was on a weekday, because besides the noise it is likely you will get debris in your garden, its just good manners, something completely lacking in some

Yeah most likely especially if they were causing debris to go all over neighbours gardens. Professional companies would value their reputation a bit more. People carrying out their own odd jobs is fine because bank holidays are often the only chance they get to do that but there's clearly a difference between that and an industrial operation going on all day

Thanks to rusti for providing a good discussion on a slow bank holiday Monday
