I've just realised I read that article wrong it says 'will lead to the exit of A main character' not 'THE main character'

I found an article online that said he's not gone for good though he will be in the next episode briefly and then gone for a while but should return at some point.

Hit US TV Show The Vampire Diaries has been pulled from ITV2's listings due to a breach of contract.

It was due to premiere on the 28 February, but in a joint press conference today star Ian Somerhalder and ITV announced the termination of the contract. It is currently unknown what the breach of contract consisted of.

Season 3 of the show began airing in September in the US, on The CW. A fourth season has yet to be announced.
