Lots of reasons really, humans contribute to society by working, paying tax, through their general involvement in communities, having much more opportunity to influence events and circumstances etc. plus they have much longer lifespans, have larger social circles, connections and families, and they have increased intelligence, emotions, awareness etc. etc.

All of that is just based from a human perspective - does anything else care about human communities or paying taxes? Why should because they are involved in human social circles should effect whether they should be saved or not?
Surely in terms of the environment, the life of the pet and/or other animals is worth more than a human which is just destroying and depleting all the resources in the world.. |

Humans are capable of much more sophisticated and abstract thought though, it's why we've been able to progress so much, discover so much, learn so much, create so much etc. humans as a species are able to do so much more than animals are

I'm just wondering to all those have said they would save a dog/cat before a human, would you be able to handle the guilt of another human being dying if you solely could have prevented it, would you feel any guilt at all?

Dogs are highly intelligent creatures though, and I can well understand why some would prefer their company to other humans lol

I'd feel guilty at first, then I'd get over it

I would though too feel awfully guilty and equally sad at not being able to save my pet either. It's a likely no win situation really I guess. Very thought provoking point though Josy. |

I may feel remorse, regret, pity, guilt... but I made my decision.

This is one of those 'impossible things to know unless it actually happened' kind of polls. I'd say I would love to save an adult, or child who is drowning over my beloved dog or cat(I've had both,) because it makes sense. But I'd most likely go freestyling after my dog the second he went in, as a natural instinct. He's my kid, in this case. However, a screaming 3 year-old is probably going to sway me from the pet, or a screaming man/woman.
No offense Apple, but this is a **** question, because it's not something you can answer honestly or declare at any moment, without it happening in real time. Hypotheticals are fun but usually nonsense.

I'd save my dog and by the looks of it others would, over saving my life so I don't feel too bad.

I'd have to save the person as karma is a bitch and I would hate to save my pet only to find myself drowning the week later and someone saving their dog over me....

I really can't believe people are saying they'd save their pet over another human, I'd like to think that if they were actually in the situation they'd change there mind.
