I know people in my own family that would be bothered by me, the majority of people might not be bothered anymore, but it’s still a scary thing to do

..I’m guessing it’s probably less about others and whether they care or not...but more about yourself and choosing whether you want to come out and how you want to come out etc...an individual, personal thing...

not a fan but coming out is a big step for a lot of LGBT youth so i can at least understand why it's such a big deal

however his family apparently already knew so i don't know who exactly was he coming out to?

The guy is clearly using it as a game play tactic, despite his pretending that he isn't. he knows that BB has a large gay following and it's clearly deliberatly trying to appeal to that.

The whole, "I never intended to come out in the house" thing is such clear BS.

This has been my problem with Cam from day 1... His contrived moves in there. I like HMs that play the game against the house, but I 'hate' HMs that try to win by playing the public.

From day 1 Cameron was plotting his soap story for attention & popularity .

You've said everything I've been saying ,of course it was a game tactic and he's a sly weasel that's fooled the public and played them like a fiddle .

Coming out is largely to do with self acceptance as much as the acceptance of others. And as a (I’m going to assume) straight poster you are not really allowed to have an opinion on the gay experiences of others..

Wow, nice to assume.

Also, it's not your place to state what I am allowed or not allowed, whatever my sexuality.

I will assume, because 100% a gay person would never make this post

And as a gay person, you aren't allowed an opinion on when or how we/my community come out or choose to accept ourselves. period.

Just like it's not my place, as a white person, to comment on the lived racist experience a person of colour may have suffered, whether I see racism as an active evil in the world today or not. get it?

The fact that we live in a world where 'coming out' is still a thing - then yes - people still do care. Straight people don't have to 'come out', they just exist, when it becomes that way for other people, then we've hit an equal ground, until then, we haven't.

Quick question before I pop out.

Is it only blacks and gays that are allowed to tell people what they can or can't have an opinion on, or is there more..

I will buy a pen when I'm out and jot them all down so I can know what discussions to avoid in the future.

”you are’nt allowed an opinion”

This sounds like some kind of North Korean-esque dictatorship

No offence but when you pass judgment on how a person coming out isn't a big deal then expect to receive some criticism back.

I suppose it's a sore subject for me as I still know many (unhappy) people living double lives in the closet - so apologies if i appeared on my 'high horse' but i really struggle to accept people's opinions on issues they have no experience with...

get off your high horse
considering circumstances (family knew) he made too much out of it
it felt drawn out and staged by him

You do not speak for the experiences of other gay folk around the world! Please stop!

get off me, I didn't start bringing sexuality into this, I was responding to dean who dismissed a straight poster opinion bc of him being straight
if anything my post showed that sexuality has nothing to do with how cameron's coming out is viewed, I'm gay and I found it cringe

and nobody talks about "around the world" but britain in 2018

Well it certainly makes a difference. People with actual experiences regarding this matter also probably have more empathy for others going through the same thing than someone people who have never met a gay person for example. It doesn’t make their opinion any less, but you can see why people value it more

And tbh at the time, and still do tbh, I found the coming out episode cringe. It was so played up by production with the cheesy party n such

Its easy for some people, difficult for others and everybody still knows its better than it was in the earlier couple decades.

Kinda basic stuff really, wasn’t worth a thread.

It still is like 1985 and even well before then too due to the prejudices of some.
Attitudes that still make it hard for those who feel a need to reveal their sexuality.
Fearing still, yes fearing, the reactions of a cruel minority maybe, in this day and age.

If you don't care, or anyone for that matter, then why bother using it as a stick to bash him with?
