This also doesn’t take into account the millions the EU gives back to us on projects the length and breadth of the UK, especially in places that voted leave Last edited by Greg!; 30-05-2019 at 10:22 AM. |

It's true that the £350m figure doesn't include the rebate that we get back from that figure but iirc we don't get to decide how that rebate is used so we still don't have control over that sum
I do think it was quite dubious to use that number for what it's worth but to try and criminalise it is nonsense unless youre now going to do that in every political campaign ever. The Remain campaign claimed leaving would cost every household £4300 a year for instance which was also based on dodgy economics |

Didn't the Liberals at one point promise to do away with school fees or something like that , was anything done about that lie ? the timing of this is a bit dodgy, as much as Boris can be a tit ,we should have equality at least, this seems like sabotage.

Politicians should be held accountable for what they say. I am all for Boris being challenged, and add a hundred more MP's to the list while they are at it

I agree with this I think, when outright lies are told then yeah, why not hold them accountable. I hope this happens to more lying MPs, of all stripes to..well basically hpefully change the whole 'lying slimy politician' stereotype that seems prevailant

For instance, I wait with breathless anticipation to see what's going to happen to Shami Chakrabarti when the The Equality and Human Rights Commission find there IS an anti-Semitism question to answer in the Labour Party, when she said quite clearly that there definitely wasn't.

Theresa should be hauled up in court immediately for promising a strong and stable government.

How much does everyone think we send then?
I read that the Bruges Group estimates the real cost to us of being a member of the EU is more like £600 million + per week due to an complicated system of payment that the media largely ignores. I'm quite looking forward to the trial, to be honest. It's going to be a lively one. |

Quoting the Guardian is like quoting the Daily Mail, to be honest.

Oh and we still have to send millions per week after we leave, so it was a poor and misleading argument anyway

The fundamental truth is that the UK is a net contributor to the EU. We give them more money than we get back. So the fundamental truth of his statement is correct. The figure he used was a treasury estimate, again, nothing wrong with using that as a figure on that basis. The arithmetic over exact figures is very complicated. If the treasury can't estimate it accurately, who can.

...I don’t think he could lose though...if he did it would surely mean that no political party ever could form a manifesto in case of an unfulfilled promise or intention..?...it’s an interesting one...

There's a difference between an unfulfilled pro,ise and a lie, though, which obviously is in the intention. If something just turns out to be unfeasible or inaccurate, or just impractical, that's one thing. If it can be proven that the person KNEW the information they were giving out was false BEFORE they said it, that's a totally different matter.
