I didn’t really ask to see the AI app and you should’ve been able to figure as much from my post. Text or no text, there wasn’t really much to misunderstand. It’s just you.

Nah, video games are an important creation (not that I’ve ever played much of them myself). Mortal Kombat and GTA aren’t taking people’s jobs by the minute or making people put more and more trust in robots. I’m just not comfortable with where AI’s taking us as a society.

The way everyone seems to have a cough-and-sniff cold at the moment but are wandering around the shops mask-less instead of working. If you’re not getting paid to be out, stay in bed and do your Christmas shopping online. I don’t want your bug.

Parents trying to marry off their young-adult children in their 20s just so they can have some grandkids to boast about. I understand where it comes from but I think it’s disgusting. And it takes at least 9 months to do all that and put to bed anyway.
I’m mentioning this because it seems to be especially common. We know that but I don’t think we talk enough about toxic pressure. Timing can be unfortunate but some things just can’t be rushed.

Yeah, our reference points might be somewhat different at times but that thing I’m talking about is very-much sometimes a thing.

People turning Instagram into TikTok with constant videos instead of pictures (unless it’s a designated channel supposed to have more videos than photos; that’s different) and having whatever audio I’m listening to at that time being paused and cancelled out because of that video’s audio.

Constant affair stories in soaps and just the same pregnacy loops/reveal-threats over and over and over again. This Tracey/Caleb thing on Emmerdale feels like the last straw. It’s just the same thing being rehashed for the 700-and-umpteenth time for the sake of cheap drama.

I rarely agree with what you say, and i know you rarely agree with what i say, but you are absolutely spot on in that post. I've been watching quite a bit of telly over Christmas, films and tv shows old and new, and one thing that is a constant is alcohol. It's so unbelievably normalised in our every day lives, yet offers no health benefits whatsoever. It's bad for you mentally and physically. And it's massively overrated too. I don't watch modern soaps, only classic Eastenders, but my God, alcohol is consumed 24/7. Any scenario and every scenario calls for a drink, it's crazy really. There was a show called People Just Do Nothing, quite good tbh, and appealing for people of my age (mid 30's). Anyway, a character on there takes drugs all the time, it's his character's make up, yet he's offered a drink and says "oh nah i don't touch that stuff, messes with your head" ![]()

People who say.. "I dont usually agree with you, but...."
Like it somehow makes the opinion more valid cause THEY agree. |

And for the record, Swan, I don’t hate you (and classic EastEnders is one thing we probably converge on). I just … ya. We just have to agree to disagree on most things.

As far as EastEnders goes, characters who they make a point of as being skint at any one time (Karen and Bianca no less) still manage to find enough loose change inside the couch to have a few drinks. They’re not exactly doing it by halves either. And they definitely don’t do tabs at the Queen Vic. Ordinary to humble themselves and order a half or a cheap shandy to reflect their lack of money, they will not. It still ends up being pint upon bottle of Prosecco when they can barely afford to feed the kids. Where alcohol’s involved they’ll always find the money. Some people might resent me putting Karen in the same sentence as Queen Patsy-B but one thing they both have/had in common is being skit mums who liked a good drink. Most nights and most afternoons alike. The way it jars is almost as annoying as those Insta posts matching up brands of wine with breakfast foods, just promoting and enabling borderline alcoholism on weekdays. Unless you’ve just done a night shift or it’s the weekend/something special (like Christmas), you should not be drinking wine with your Cornflakes at 7am. There’s starting early and there’s being one step away from rehab.

Racism is still a problem unfortunately but things like “most white people don’t want us here” aren’t true. I think a lot of black people see white people as more inherently racist than they are. And you can find micro-aggressions that tally up with every form of “ism” out there without the seriousness of any one type of discrimination being trivialised (God forbid). There are a lot of similarities and common ground for making someone your person or at least finding them worthy of interest that cut beyond the colour of any one person’s skin.
There’s just a certain closed insularity a lot of people (of all races) have and then there’s this thing of being obsessed with everyone outside said marginalised/discriminated-against community having to do lots of work just so they can finally say they’re not prejudiced. In a world filled with so many issues and where the average person is just trying to survive and put bread on the table, learning about every possible thing under the sun that someone might take as a micro-aggression of some kind (whether it’s racial, gender-related, age-related, sexuality-related, whatever) is a bit much. Cultural diversity is huge and that’s worthy of attention and celebration but people are still people. You’re still an individual before you’re anything else. You’re still a person before you’re Igbo, Yoruba, Black British, Jamaican, Irish, German, mixed race or Scouse. You have your own individual personality and essence which sure does take a fair bit of influence from some of your demographics but there’s still only one you. No other person is going to be exactly like you just because they have ancestral roots in the same place or have sexual feelings for the same gender as you. Your demographics, diagnosis or environment don’t define you 100%.

I get irritated by the lowering standards in advertising .
They say that ‘sex sells’ hence all the gorgeous people featured in most tv advertisements.. Now I’m noticing more and more things like Maltesers .. who are using two young women referring to selling dirty socks to perverts on eBay or SpecSavers who have a couple laughing together when hubby realises that the wife has read loads of explicit books .. Has it always been this way or am I just being more observant ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Last edited by Zizu; 16-02-2024 at 02:40 PM. |
