Obviously the biggest worry with him is race relations, and standing aside and letting Russia do what they like. But then, the countries Russia seem to be quietly annexing seem 80% in favour of rejoining Russia anyway.

I don't think Trump being in power will be any more miserable than the deadlock in the houses that preceded him, however the Republicans having total control now (as I understand?) is worrying. I agree with a lot of this. Well said

When I was in Texas last week I got talking to a Mexican man who has lived in the states all his life, he said he'd never experienced racism towards him until the last few weeks, that's the scary part, it seems like this is now some sort of validation for racist to crawl out of the woodwork, that's scary.

well that is very anecdotal evidence and it could be coincidental

Yes it is anecdotal but I like to hear peoples personal experiences too, seems very coincidental for that man though

A REALLY great, balanced, and insightful post.

Yeah his own refusal to condemn the actions of his supporters is a huge problem. And often overlooked by the same people who'll accuse Jeremy Corbyn of condoning antisemitism.

..it's not just refusal to address and condemn..it's also the encouragement of in his campaign speeches in offering to pay legal fees to those who felt violence was appropriate.../go on then people, you have my blessing and I'll help in any way I can...

I feel sick for women in general he clearly has no respect for women, you can see that just watching him on the apprentice - under his rule won't abortion be banned too?

His position is it should be a state's issue and not a federal one. He is pro-life though.

Same, this is what I mean about the world going backwards, I fear for my daughters generation tbh. If you have the leader of the "free world" being a sexist pig, then how is anything moving forward?

Idk what to feel
No 'WW3' apparently and we're a bit safer but discrimination and misogyny still high and **** but... we still need to live our lives i guess
It just is ****ing bizarre to hear 'Reality TV star Donald Trump has been elected President'
All seems a bit Black Mirror

Oh dear, for me just a bit more evidence the World is really going mad, the harder, more heartless and extreme divisive tones seemingly attracting the support.

Having said that, Trumps victory speech was better than I expected but I won't be a hypocrite and say I am happy at this result.
For me this is a backward step by the USA and in fact a dangerous one too.

Just really glad I do not live there today.
Obviously let's see where he goes and what he really does now or is he also going to follow a different path now in power from what he advocated in his awful and really nasty campaign.
If the path he goes down is far away from most of what he said in his campaign then possibly things will not be so bad after all.

I don't know what you have been watching but Clinton's campaign was pretty nasty, just like her.

I don't know why you would think having Hilary as president would be a good thing for any country if you respect standards, honesty and doing the best for the country rather than what is best for an individual's political career. She has demonstrated dishonesty and a over-riding desire for power. She doesn't give 2 hoots for the average Amercian citizen.

think back on who we have elected as leaders of the UK...

How many did we get right and were very good at their job?

Lets make a list...

Conor McGregor reacts to the Presidential results :

“I just could not give a bollocks, with all due respect, the whole thing is weird to me,” said McGregor. ” The public are just brainwashed into thinking something is going to happen with this one.

“I don’t think either of those two contenders, or whatever they are, have power in anything, anyway.”

I actually agree with the latter part of that but I also don't think it's that simple. *tinfoil hat time* I don't believe in democracy, particularly. I think there are things going on behind the scenes that dictate the "flow of events" and that most of the surface politics we actually see is distraction / window dressing. Not "illuminati" in the traditional sense of the word; that concept is too well defined which is against the point. It's unseen. It's little shunts, nudges, leaks, tweaks, that result in seeminly miniscule changes in political gravity that end up completely altering political tides.

The reason I only partly agree that it's not meaningless is that I believe current "unbelievable" (except actually, obvious, if you've been paying attention) political events, like Brexit and Trumpit, are a symptom of / an integral part of those changing tides. It *is* weird. There is WEIRD **** going on that shouldn't technically be politically possible and shocks people every time and yet, it's becoming consistent enough to be spotted a mile off. It doesn't feel usual. It feels like chess pieces sliding into place in obscure ways, and us casual players can't see the checkmate coming and are confused about those moves. I guarantee there are more "shocks" to come in global politics and eventually, we'll see how they all fit together.

One thing I can guarantee is that it won't be anything good for the "common man".

Clearly I'm no expert, I'm just going on my quick peek into the state of the states

While we were in New Orleans actually we got totaly grilled by an older RVing gentlman on how people our age could afford to come over there and RV, asking us what jobs we had and how we could afford stuff on our wages etc so rude

Keep wearing that tin foil hat TS... you make sense to me

I am so not happy right now. Even at 17 years old, I'm already thinking of either staying in Pittsburgh, or moving to Canada, or maybe joining Ben in New Zealand. This is too sad and ridiculous to comprehend right now.
