Men do not all have the same physical strength - some are much stronger than others. Does that mean they should be treated differently - of course not. Emotional strength is much more relevant - and that is much more a character trait - not a gender one! |

Of course, we've deviated from that to some extent but the generalisation is still very much there. You don't see many women in physical labour jobs like construction for example. And in terms of abuse the legal system will certainly take a man hitting a woman far more seriously than vice versa. Purely because men are deemed physically stronger and capable of more damage. So the physical difference does come into play in all aspects of life. And you certainly still hear many women talking about wanting a big guy who can protect them! |

I think it is just common sense that the law takes men hitting women more seriously - given the difference in physical strenth - just as a grown adult, man or woman - shoudn't hit a smaller, physically weaker child! It is far more likely to result in serious physical injury - and cannot be condoned in any way, shape or form - although this doesn't give women license to hit men - assault is assualt - and should be treated accordingly! And women may feel safer in given situations when with a physically strong man - but that doesn't mean they want or need to be protected per se! But there are always certain types of soppy women - that can't cope without a man - but we certainly shouldn't all be tarred with the same brush! |

Women need to fulfil their potential and aspirations as much as men do. For some women having children and being a stay at home mum is fulfilling enough, but for others it is not. Not all men have careers, a lot make just enough money to go piss it up the wall at weekends, and some can barely make it to the signing on queue once a fortnight, so don't let's pretend that all men are movers and shakers, because we all know that isn't true![]() If you have no valid stereotype for ALL men, don't try imposing one on ALL women.

Historically men have used their aggression and strength to subjugate women and maintain control over them. Is it any wonder that during countless centuries when only men were educated and allowed the freedom to travel and explore, that it is the male sex that has dominated science, literature, art and technology etc. Had women also been afforded the same privileges that men have always had, human beings might have followed a very different evolutionary path and who knows which sex would be the dominant one now, or maybe we would all have been hermaphrodites - truly equal in every possible way! As things stand, there is still one area in which men will never be able to compete.

Wombai: "common knowledge men are generally more competitive than women - and that is about egos! Men want to win! Deny that all you like - but it is true!" What was that you where saying about taring people with the same brush? |

Men just don't have it. And men actually have quite low pain thresholds compared to women. |

Well you're a fella, so with that massively superior brain of yours you must be able to come up with a viable method for male procreation.
