To be fair he never said he doesn't smoke because people think it's wrong. He doesn't smoke because of the health concequences. Same reason I'm in a neverending process of trying to quit.

Anti smokers annoy the hell out of me too but I know I'm being very dickish when I'm smoking. I used to love these 'you only get one life' arguments too but they are complete fodder. What like you have to smoke to enjoy this one life or something?

All it does is temporarily give you the sensation of relaxation and stress reduction non smokers enjoy all the time. A cigarette doesn't make you feel better after a meal. It just makes you feel normal like every non smoker at the table. It's called addiction. It fills an insivible hole for about half an hour.

Again I can't stand the anti smoking brigade - people can smoke all they want - but at the same time I'm long, long past my youthful rebellion days of smoking apologetics. It's a fucking retarded habit.

yeah i do believe trying things, cigs, booze, drugs, gambling or whatever makes you happy is living your life in a much more productive way than not trying but still having an opinion on them things.

I agree on everything but cigarettes there. Gambling can be a wild ride and psychoactive drugs get you out of it. Cigarettes ... yeah ... they are something in life to try but they don't really contribute anything other than vast sums of taxes to shady governments, vast sums of profit to companies who don't give a damn about your well being and poor health for the user.

All without even getting high. If weed was freely available nevermind booze ... people would see the serious pointlessness in cigarettes.

Of course you do not have to smoke to enjoy life - but to for Arista to respond to another poster (who said they would blow smoke 'in his way') - and Arista replying that he would knock that person down and arrest them (which begs the question: arrest them for what) - that's a bit much imo.

You might be trying too hard there Pyramid. My post was hardly going to apply to every smoker on the planet. Just the vast majority.

My post had nothing to do with anything Arista said either. I think we can all agree he is a bit ... yeah. I don't see why passive smoking is such a hot topic for someone who never leaves his flat.

I agree with you, the thread asks if smokers have rights, I say of course they do and you make full and valid points that show why it should remain so.

Come on man live life to the max! Don't bother with feeling fit or seeing the world or any of the other hundreds of thousands of amazing things the universe has to offer. Give me a smoker to car fumes anyday, chidlren in pushchairs get most exposed to car fumes and the annoying car drivers who have stopped and are talking to someone but leave their engines running are worse.
I don't care how safe people say some cars are as to exhaust fumes,it is still being emitted from them and it still stinks.

As I said earlier in this thread, when in an enclosed bus station,I cannot hardly breathe in there with the bus engines going etc, I would rather be in the presence of thousands of smokers, the smell of smoking is a million times better too.

How could it ever be right to ban smoking in open areas if people wish to, people pay their council taxes, smokers pay vastly higher taxes for smoking on duty to to the treasury. Prejudice and the nanny state come to mind as the only logical explanation for people condemning smokers,simply because they want to smoke, but the whingers don't want to smoke themselves but also want to impose their likes and dislikes on all others.

If any ban needs to likely be in place it needs to be against the whingers not the smokers.
