Tonight!! (well, tomorrow since I'm not in the US but still)

IGN have posted their review of season 3 and it's another extremely positive one. They gave it a 9.5/10

I've seen quite a few reviews and tweets from those who've seen the season early and literally every one has said how brilliant it is. My expectations are high.

The one thing about the whole season being aired over one weekend is that it will take a hell of a lot of willpower to stop myself from watching them all too quickly.

I wish Gav watched it though, would make bingeing it easier, did you say it was all being released in one?

Fun fact of the day that nobody asked for: The movie was itself inspired by another movie from the 60s called La Jetée that's apparently almost completely comprised of still pictures and voice-over narration.

Just watched the first episode, really good opener

Spoiler:

I absolutely love Magdalena, I hope she's a prominent presence throughout the season. Between Magdalena and Septa Unella, Hannah Waddingham certainly plays fanatical religious psychopaths well I found it interesting when she was talking to Cassandra about what it means to be a mother, she seemed to have anger / sadness on her face, I hope there's a backstory there. I felt as if she had been abandoned. I love how the relationships between parents and children has been an ongoing theme of the show all the way.

Ariana What a BITCH MOVE, MAGDALENA.

Jennifer's 99 Luftballons musical dream sequence was amazing, very reminiscent of The Name Game in AHS Very intrigued by the "four horsemen of the apocalypse" she had a vision of wearing the device that Future Cole and Magdalena wore. I already know from press releases for the season what their general role is,
Spoiler:

that they're called The Guardians and are tasked with protecting The Witness so I assume the infant Witness is inside the box they were carrying
but I'm still interested to learn more about them. They look cool af too.

Loved having future versions of Cole and Cassie coming into play too. And I'm a sucker for a causality loop which this show does so well so I liked how Cole got the information he needs for the next step of his mission from his future self, who would have known to give him(self) the information because he already received it from himself etc etc... Yeah, I'm glad this show is back.

Watched all 4 episodes now.
Spoiler:

Olivia at Project Splinter is so surreal I've been wanting her and Jones to meet ever since season 1 and their interactions did not disappoint. Jones using the time machine to torture her though, as much as I love Olivia that was pretty epic.

Ramse dead Usually I'd be skeptical about it lasting what with this being a time travel show but him saying "Don't undo this" makes me think he's not coming back anytime soon. Wasn't expecting Sam to be killed off either (or to be so much older than when we last saw him).

Jennifer putting on one-woman performances of ET, Jaws and Alien in 1921 Also cracked up at her playing The Witness.

Ready for the next 3

I loved the film so when the series originally started i watched three or four episodes and just lost interest really quick.
I've seen a few screen shots from recent episodes that looked much more interesting though (some kind of time travel portal center kinda' thing!) so maybe i'll give it another go.
On the subject of 'portals'............i saw the proper trailer for 'The Dark Tower' last night and it looked rather intriguing to say the least..............and the first episode of the new 'Twin Peaks' premieres tonight of course!!!!!

It's grown a lot since the first few episodes. I liked it from the start but the mythology really deepens and expands significantly as the show progresses.

Episodes 5 and 6 done!
Spoiler:

Kid Witness and Kid Pallid Man were just as creepy as the grown up ones! Got major "Are you my mummy?" vibes when Mini Witness (guess we can call him Athan now) put on the gas mask Loved the reveal that he's Primary too.

Christopher Lloyd was brilliantly sinister as expected Great to have Scottie Thompson back too, definitely one of the most interesting characters in the show.

Bit confused as to why that one Guardian stayed behind when they gassed the tent though. Or did I miss something?

The 80s episode was hilarious, wouldn't really expect a comedy caper esque episode from 12 Monkeys but it was great. Olivia as Jennifer was one of the weirdest (in the best way) things I've seen and not something I thought I ever would Btw I had no idea Jennifer's mother's surname was Markridge, was that already revealed in an earlier season and just went over my head? Explains why the Markridge Group is called that anyway.

I'm thinking the dead man Jennifer drew from her visions will be Deacon. Very intrigued by the visions with the dead woman in the Witness mask too, she's bound to have significance somewhere down the line.

Finished episode 7, ready for the last 3 eps tomorrow

Spoiler:

Seems child Athan isn't so evil after all, I don't think Magdalena dying (RIP evil queen </3) will prevent him from becoming The Witness as we know him though. The surviving Guardian seems keen on allowing him to avoid that fate too but of course something will happen to push him down that path

So Jones' reaction to finding out about Cassandra keeping the secret is to have her held at gunpoint and try to have her killed when she runs. She has no chill sometimes!

Hannah

Loved Cassandra's scenes with her mother

Also I'm glad Deacon asked about Jones' dog, I'd been wondering about him too

I'm just glad it gets its due critically with seasons 2 and 3 being so highly acclaimed (which says a lot considering how skeptical people were at first). Deserves way more attention but those who do watch appreciate how good it is

Watched episode 8 earlier before work. So good
Spoiler:

I actually really like Project Splinter being, erm, splintered () into these two opposing factions. But Jones slapping Jennifer! I defended her when she ordered the massacre on Spearhead but THAT was too far.

But yeah, this whole storyline nicely sums up the brilliantly grey nature of morality and allegiances on this show, stories where sides can change and "good" characters start to act almost like villains themselves are so much more interesting than black and white "team a vs team b" sort of stories. And it works because they've already laid the groundwork ever since season 1 to show how ruthless Jones is willing to be for the sake of the mission, and because both sides have understandable motives (well, apart from Deacon who's literally just throwing a tantrum because of his own irrelevance). I think Hannah should have more reservations about suddenly hunting down her former allies though (and especially Jennifer being locked up) but they could always address that still.

I still don't really get the point of Deacon though, I've always found him to be a weak link in the show. He just doesn't interest me, never has.

Excited to see more of James Callis as The Witness in the last couple of episodes, I hope (and expect) him to have a good chunk of screentime.

Oh, and Cassie's attempt at pickpocketing was one of the funniest things I've ever seen

So I finished season 3 and

Spoiler:

So Olivia was The Witness all along wtf?!?! I never anticipated that in a million years. It's honestly perfect for me since she's been my favourite character ever since we met her so her being the true Big Bad of everything is just the best. I also have faith that they planned this along because it adds a brilliant layer of irony to her whole season 2 storyline when she felt abandoned by The Witness and turned against "him" now we know it was a future her the whole time. Also, I'd missed Olivia being the evil HBIC this season as it seemed like she was becoming an ally to Project Splinter (though I did really enjoy this new dynamic with her and these new interactions) so I loved the fact that it was all just a long con on her part.

Another reason I loved it was because, as much as I really did enjoy episode 9, I found it disappointing from a standpoint of it being The Witness' backstory. As an episode of TV it was great and I love the idea of someone going back in time over 600 times trying and failing to save their soulmate over and over, but for The Witness I just want them to be the evil, destructive force they've been built up as over the 3 seasons rather than a sympathetic figure when the mask comes off so I definitely prefer the idea of Olivia as The Witness over Athan.

Olivia killing The Pallid Man (k seriously we saw him as a kid this season and we still haven't got a name?) must have been cathartic when you think about that scene in season 2 when she's just been paralysed and he comes over and literally kicks her when she's down.

Also loved the final scene with the mention of Cole's mother. She's clearly going to finally be important in the final season which I'm so excited about, they planted the seeds about her involvement in the story back in the first season so I can't wait to finally find out what went on with her. I assume the implication currently is that she's Primary.
