..what worries me though is if school meals stop because people don't want them or they are not cost effective for the local authorities..then obviously schools will still offer free school meals to those who are eligable..but they will probably have to be delivered from outside of the school..and that will effect their quality so for the people who really do need that hot lunch...they will deteriote badly..which is very sad and wrong..

The pic in the OP looks like prison food. Thought Jamie Oliver was meant to have made them all healthy? I remember in the younger days of primary school, the staff would walk around and make sure we were eating our meals

..well they do that in my school Joe..but children can be quite clever too..sneaking food into the bins or on the floor under the table when no one's looking..children are quite inventive

I have never seen a prison style plate used for school children before...seems wrong somehow though I dont know how :S Ahhh just had word from the kids' mother(gav got a bit worried and wanted to know exactly what his daughter had on her school meals today... )Today Jacket potato + beans Pasta Sponge cake and custard Then she went back for seconds...a ham salad sandwich Wish all schools were like this

..and every day there is a salad choice or vegetables too..and the parents are always advised of the menus so they can plan when their child has lunch.. ...I have to say though..the busiest lunch days..not only at our school but all of the others in the area are the ones where they have something like pizza/burger/sausage and chips...and sometimes we have to remove certain healthier meals..say pasta meals from the menu because the children refuse to eat them..and replace them with something they will eat.. ..I appreciate what Jamie Oliver tried to do but in my experience unfortunately the majority of children/parents would rather eat meals or have their children eat meals less healthier because then they are assured they will actually eat them..and many children are not persuaded at home to try vegetables/pasta/rice so they will never eat it at school...sad

Gavs daughter is the total opposite to how it sems most other kids are. shes constantly eating fruit and that (at our house anyway) and she tells her mother off if there is not veg on her plate for her tea We often have the mother twisting onto us on the phone about his daughter refusing to eat her hotdogs and chips until she makes some beans/peas and carrots or something to go with it. I think its hilarious...the mother doesnt. But she should feed her kids right and then she wuldnt have this problem.

I like everything on that tray except for the cobs.
Also I think nobody should be forced to eat something they don't like, that's to strict when people do that to there children imo.

Our teachers used to sit at their own teachers table in the middle of the dinner hall and eat the exact same stuff as we did at lunchtime. I wonder if the teachers in that school do the same thing, I doubt it somehow
![]() Come to think of it, the teachers used to queue with us too...everything was the same as what we did

Still failing to see how the child is a troublemaker for taking photos of her school meals for a blog. Even asking permission to do so, its not like she did it sneakily to try and cause crap for the school. Hell she even praises some of the meals...she thinks the burger effort is 7/10 :S

Haha you didnt have to do that
![]() I just really didnt understand how you could class her as a troublemaker thats all. I do, however, think the parents are using this for attention. They cant be that horrified or they would be making packed lunches (assuming the school allows them, some dont) as with the mother being a doctor, they can surely afford to do that, as they will be paying £2 per day now. |
