I'm down with the 3 strikes and you're out thing. Far too many idiots get banned then come back just the same and in cases, even worse than before they were banned.

New skins.

The 3 strikes your out idea is the dumbest idea ever, this forum would end up with no members

We used to have a 3 strikes rule. Still had loads of members(loads more than now actually), just people knew not to take the piss with breaking rules so they didnt, unless they were utter trolls

Infraction system is way dodgy, because you can give someone 1 point for something small and it ends up giving them a fortnight ban

..what is the '3 strikes rule'..?..I mean, I can see what it is but is it 3 strikes and a permanent ban/week ban/month ban etc..?...

..I don't personally agree with a private section, there is such a mixed/varied age range on TiBB that all that would do is exclude members and how can a forum of this size be a 'community' if people were excluded from sections..it's not just an age thing either, because lots of forums have a certain post count before a member can be part of a private section so it would also exclude newer members and make them feel less a part of the forum and more aware of being a 'newbie'....the one main thing that I loved when I first started to post off-season was a 'community feel' to TiBB, which to some extent I don't think it is so much anymore, so changing anything that would make it more so/or less so would be a bad thing, I think...the 'like/dislike', I'm also on a forum that has that but it doesn't seem to serve any purpose..but maybe is left open to being abused if members didn't get on...

..Zee mentioned about making threads...obviously some days there are lots and other days, not so many..that's just the way of it but it's kind of a two way thing that people have to be interested in posting in those threads ..I'm as guilty as anyone to sometimes struggle with enthusiasm to post in threads so then I guess after a time people struggle with enthusiasm to make them as well....

..I think having personalised avatars/sigs should be open to everyone/not just a privilege because that would be another thing that would exclude newer members who didn't have a high enough post count and generally I think exclusions are a bad thing..but maybe have a compulsory 'switch off' mode for on season/live show threads for different things..so that the forum didn't slow down so much...

..I don't see any problems with the invisible mode/most forums have that option and mods and members use it if they wish to...

..the chat threads, yeah I do see them particularly quiet atm and maybe that's just a very temporary thing or maybe we don't need two of them anymore ...maybe people are choosing to chat more off-site/on other sites, so they won't be as busy...

...the 'sort out you differences' type room/section...personally and in my experience, whenever people in general feel quite 'heated', then continuing in another area wouldn't really solve anything because of raised emotions at that time and might only make it worse...for me, more of a 'time out' area would be better as trying to communicate with anyone when both your own and their emotions might be quite high is not usually a good idea....

First strike was a day ban IIRC. Second was a week. Third was permanent

Mind back then it was seriously rare for anyone to even gt a warning, as noone took the piss the way they do now. Its the infraction system thats made people like they are today IMO

Don't give them an excuse Vicky.

They're being infracted and banned because they're absolutely atrocious!!!

Are you joking vicky? I've heard about this place and seen threads where it was all out war on here...
And you say now it takes the piss? If you are judged to have rolled your eyes at someone you get infracted...
Not suggesting any bias (god forbid) but posts are open to interpretation, one moderator may consider a comment 'sniping' and another 'joking'.
That's the problem with infractions, the strikes thing I would have thought would involve more than wone mod and therefore be more objective.

No. Vicky is right. The infraction system is a joke. It was much better when people knew exactly what they could and couldn't get away with.

I agree. There was still trouble back then but people had less chances before they were booted off of here for good.

What's not clear about it though?

I think the system itself is fine it's just that the points structure could do with changing

..I can't remember which thread Vicky explained it in once, where infractions/bans are dependent on many different things which are taken into consideration....

The reason the 3 strikes system is better is because people were very much aware of where they stood on the forum. There were three blank boxes on every user's profile, and if you were given a warning then one of the boxes would be filled yellow with a black exclamation mark. You knew that if you had done something to earn a warning, you'd better not do it again or you would be getting a second one. It meant that people knew what the limit was. With the infraction system, because it's a rolling system where infractions drop off after a certain period of time, there is just no end to people bickering with each other. People know that they'll be banned for a day or two and then they can come back, keep their head down for a while until the points have expired and then have a go at each other again. It's maddening.

This. I see people infracted for getting around the swear filter but then I see threads where FM's are calling each other 'bitch'. Its hardly consistent.

Not my style to report people. I think its the job of the mods to find those posts.
