If the reason is because they play instruments, then that would rule Take That out of being a boy band, because Barlow plays the piano and Howard has been known to play the guitar.

I don't think my answer should be correct either, because my answer is a band who has a lead singer, a guitarist, a keyboard player and a drummer. So if Adam's answer is classed as wrong then so should mine, even though they're a boyband. So give me some points too, because I stand with Adam on this one. Power to the people!

Common sense would suggest that "boybands" are not just "bands with males" otherwise the Rolling Stones are a boyband, Megadeth are a boyband and Wu-Tang Clan are a boyband.
