I'm more than not criticising the state of music today when actually it's probably quite brilliant, but as usual the best and most exciting acts are sidelined for the more commercial acts and from the looks of things that works.
The only thing that really keeps me going and posting on this site is the fact that the majority of these absolutely braindead nodders are under the age of 15 and around that age I was pretty much the same. With exposure to older and alternative styles that thankfully changed - there was a time when I did say I hated the Beatles, because it seemed like the rebellious or funny thing to say. Only when you've actually listened to the variety and volume of their work - from the imaginative, delirious highness of I Am The Walrus to your standard anthem like Hey Jude - can you actually have a leg to stand on.
It depends on your take of music. If you do find it cultural or whatever then your post applies. But what you don't seem to get is not everyone is into that side of music. Some people just enjoy listening to what is good and have no desire to go beyond that. A lot of us don't define our lives by music.

oh it really isn't unless you listen to it at a stupid hour like 4am on a Thursday or whatever.
It's mostly just overpaid and undercharismatic non-entities playing stupid games in their offices inbetween playing what's been shortlisted for them so as to appease this kind of sycophantic bull**** that's engulfed the media today. But lots of good music lies outside what is being banged into your head. I agree to a certain extent that not everyone is hardcore into music, but you shouldn't have to be in order to explore new music. No matter what kind of music listner you are, surely everyone benefits from finding great new music? I mean, even if you are just casually into it?

It's a question of cultural positioning too, and self respect. Do you really just want to stand still with your eyes closed and let the world choose what it wants to come to you?

Screw that.

That's why last week you said Leona was the best because her album was in the top 3 of the most sold of the decade ? Contradiction much ?
And if we're on about the voice, I can find you a hundred singers that have a much better voice than her. Most of the tenors for example. But then you said Opera was boring. The day Leona will provide something similar to what a tenor can do, then I'll suck on her toes forever.

Agree'd, im really not that into music.
I don't need to listen to other people that havent been promoted into the charts because i have perfectly good songs to listen to.

Although i have watched a lot of weightlifting video's and found some good songs that not many have heard of.

spirit was amazing and everyone loved it it sold more than everything that year including rihanna good girl gone bad

Echo didnt do aswell as her company picked a bad 1st single if they would of picked a better one it would of atleast sold 6million but 2million isnt too bad considering shakira sold less than 1million and shes awesome and she performed on xfactor and only got number 35

Whilst again, that's all true, it's a lot more varied than the ****e that the Galaxy playlist offers. That's my point. I'm not saying Radio 1 is the most varied source of music in the world, because it isn't. But it's a lot more varied than the absolutely absurd mess of a commercial radio station that is Galaxy FM. And yes, I do hate it.

Self respect is only applicable to music snobs, which the majority of people aren't.

Some people just can't be bothered to find new music, some people have no desire to. Its that simple. If I put the music channel on and hear something I like then theres nothing I can do about it. I don't care if its being spoon fed, its accessible without effort. I'm not big on music anyway, only listen to music channels every now and again, the radio in the car and when I'm out in clubs. I rarely put on what I want to listen to. There are loads of people like that, so whats the point in looking for more music?

Personal benefit. Or don't you want that? What if you found a band who you ended up liking far, far better than anything you hear on the telly? I guess you will never have that pleasure. That's reserved for 'music snobs'.

Omg sorry babes...

I forgot I needed to travel to the middle of the earth or to the next planet to discover a new band or artist.

What was I thinking liking a catchy pop song!?!?!?!

Don't be daft. We all like catchy pop songs. Some people just go further. It's hardly travelling to a new planet. What's in front of you right now?
