..Brooklyn...a nice easy movie, I liked it a lot..that pull between family commitment/love and the claustrophobia of small town/type environment and wanting to be part of the big 'new world'...and Saoirse Ronan is just gorgeous and delightful in everything she's in.....I reckon an 8/10...

Room - 8.5/10
It was a great watch, very interesting and gave realistic insight into what it's like for people in that situation. The kid who played Jack deserved his award, magnificent acting from such a young child.

Sicario - 9/10 - Probably my favourite film so far that is in the award race (and 5th favourite of the year overall), Benecio Del Toro with a brilliant performance and really should be nominated for supporting actor.. Almost as robbed as the kid from Beasts of No Nation. Josh Brolin & Jon Bernthal were good too, and Emily Blunt was solid but her character was pretty annoying. Cinematography is incredible as well.

Legend.. Although I hate the glamorisation of the Krays, it's a really good film and Tom Hardy is tremendous in it

A Big Music/Film Fanatic

This afternoon I ended up watching one of the greatest CGI Films in the history of animation, Toy Story. My favourite character has to be the tall green dinosaur Rex because he's scared of everything and is dumb. Also he is voiced by one of my favourite actors Wallace Shawn (the guy who played the lunatic that drunk the poison in The Princess Bride)..
For the time the CGI was sensational seeing as the film was released in 1995 and took probably a long time to create it as technology was starting to get better at the time. One of my all time favourite films. Rating: 8.5/10 Last edited by DaNasty; 12-02-2016 at 04:09 PM. Reason: Spelling Mistakes |

Finally forced myself to watch Zoolander 1 and officially the second stupidest film ever made after Dude where is my car. Doesn't deserve rating.

Spotlight - 8/10
Quite shocking really. I think everyone hears the jokes about Priests and the Church and stuff being pedophiles but I didn't have any idea the extent of it. Roughly 6% of all Priest's messing with kids, that's absolutely insane. They show a list in the end credits of all the different cities they've had reports from and it goes on and on, takes up a good 4 or 5 screens (and includes places in the UK). As for the film itself, Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton are both brilliant in their roles, and I think this story really did need to be brought to a wider audience. Good chance at winning Best Picture... |

Queen of Walford

I had been looking forward to seeing this, it had quite a nice reputation for being hyper gory with a good kill count and when it was shown in festivals it went into the top 100 horror movies on IMDb. 5 friends stumble out of a swamp covered in dirt and blood, they are in shock and missing two of their friends...They run into a house near by and take shelter, one decides to leave and get help and he manages to get to a town within 10 minutes of leaving the house (which begs the reason why they all didn't head for the town) the rest are left to defend the house against their assailants...yet they sit in the living room next to an open window and complain it's cold. One decides she needs a shower and after a 5 minutes scene of her preening in the mirror moaning slightly and touching her boobs I resigned myself that this was going to be a soft core porn with blood. She hears crashing downstairs and looks out the bathroom window to see two of her friends being dragged out into the swamp by men with white mud covering their skin and the guy is set on fire while the girl manages to escape (the mud men rip off her top) and run away. The guy who escaped earlier is now in a bar chatting up a woman who decides she wants to wear her friends top so they decide to exchange and giggle over a montage of them touching each other's boobs. I literally need to turn this off but mehhh I'm mildly intrigued. Back at the house shower girl has showed her boobs so she's killed and surprisingly it's well executed and I am back to thinking it could be ok...another girl in killed while nude, then another is dies getting changed...and then a girl back at the bar decides to use the bathroom to change her underwear (she has about 5 sets of underwear in her handbag ) The escapee guy remembers his friends (all but one are dead by now) and he takes 2 new people with him and underwear girl to help them. The sole house survivor kills two mud men and sort of becomes the only likeable person in the movie, the new people show up and underwear girl is killed but takes out 3 mud men with her and the remaining 3 find the survivor and idk why but they go back inside the house...the mud men attack the house and survivor girl runs upstairs and well that's the last we see of her (seriously) The last 3 decide to run for it in the swamp but get attacked, after the useless 2 bar helpers get knocked out the guy who forgot his friends and the king of the muddies fight, the mud guy is killed and the 3 people escape...that's it Awful movie and during the credits I find that Playboy funded the movie and half the actresses are from Playboy...stands to reason, every single female in the movie got naked bar the Indian girl who endures racial insults throughout from her friend (he orders her curry at the bar ordering drinks and mimics her voice twice) 3/10 Avoid unless you want endless boobs and people you don't care about being killed off screen

Escape Plan.
OK film. 7.0/10. The script needed more work though maybe. The fact that it has both Stallone and Arnie saves a lot of it. |

..Spotlight...a tremendous cast..most of us would only be able to imagine what it would feel like to be a victim so very powerful to see some portrayed on the screen...it was am absorbing movie but I kept thinking how different the image of the media we know, as being anything but fine people like those reporters and their devotion to exposing the wrongs and an ultimate betrayal of trust ...probably 8/10 I think...
