Default Adult Area

Is it possible to use the user registration details namely the date of birth to restrict areas to those under or over a certain age group.

That way adult orientated material like certain types of jokes could be entered on an over 18's forum without having to worry about upsetting the children or others of a sensitive nature?

And if it makes minors feel better you could always add an under 18's forum.

Why? If under 18's were given their own little area to play in to balance an over 18's area.

I'm all for an adult area, but with no age restrictions. Just one rule.

"If you don't like it, stay the **** out."

Would be perfect.

Well do you mean like keep all adult jokes like dirty/sick ones to the adult area?

Or both are treated the same and can say the same stuff?

Also, make the swear filter optional in the user control panel.

I would love to hear reasons as to why this is a bad idea.

Well ideally if someone wanted to post what some may find offensive, if they were posted in an over 18's area first they could also be vetted to see if they were indeed suitable for inclusion on the general forums.

I think an 18+ forum would be good but I don't think it should have an age restriction, people will just lie to get in

Maybe it should just be for members only too, so guests can't view it

This.

**** the swear word filter!
Its not as if we all havent heard the words Bastard,Dick,****,****,**** etc out on the street.

I would use italic to show them words but James gave me a warning for it the other day for doing that, so I cant.

I mean tbh, censoring **** still botheres me.

It comes out everyones asses every day, its hardly offensive.

I always get the feeling Patrick swears just because it sounds cool, ya know?

I mean swearing is one thing, but using it after every ****ing word is a bit ****ing much? I mean, SH!T!

Well swear words and names dont bother me, however I know some people dont like them, obviously some people have complained about the use of various words on the general forum. And i know lots of women just dont like the c word.

Yeah I don't think the age restrictions would work. But even if someone did break the age restriction, if they fitted in nicely and nobody knew any better it would mean they are mature and level headed enough to be posting in the adult section anyway. And if they fail that test - give em' the kick .

Yeah people could lie however if they have lied, about their age and at a later date their parents complain about something that they have read on the forums it falls to the parents for failing to adequately supervise their child on the net.

I'm all for it. But I'd want in lol.

You could do what SIN do, and make it a subscription forum, so you need to ask permisson to be able to view it. Would keep spammers out and stuff.

just make everyone fill in their DOB and then lock it, many forums dont let you edit your DOB once its filled in. that could avoid young newbies but then you still have messes like Jack and Patrick trying to get in.

and maybe it should be 16+ seeing as thats the legal sex age and theres not much difference between an 18yo and a 16yo. just a thought.

I thought that the point of a FORUM, was open discussion available to all. You can't discount ppls opinions etc because of their age etc. next it will be fat ppl or old ppl (like me!). If you want to tell someone a dirty joke message them!

well I cant think of very many if any younger members that ever contribute an well written fully informed opinion so whats the point. and it's not like the over 18s are locked in, just for certain topics, the rest of the forum is still free for all.

In my experience they don't usually work and people would just re-reg with second ID's to get access. On a forum this size it would be hard to monitor and they are hideous to moderate. Even if you think anything goes you'd be surprised by the legalities you still have to abide to. Fine for the members. Tough on the staff

Added to that people would just post in there and the main board become a ghost town and look un-used and dead to new possible members.

Not against it. Just adding some info as I've witnessed it first hand

Because I ****ing joined here to talk about BB, I like talking to people like Samy,Jack,Steph,Jords,Stacey,Jess etc who are actually good people.

Theres always the majority though who think they can get away with whatever, because they can.. so walk over everyone unless they happen to be over 18 and have been on here more than 2 years.

So I can stay on here if I want, who do you think you are.
