Which do people prefer?. I love them both but think Harry Potter just about takes it for me

I know it is tough, I had to think about it alot, the final decision was made because, I could watch Harry Potter over and over but I have to be in the right frame of mind for LOTRs

Lord of The Rings is old and isnt compared to Harry Potter as much as it use to be.

Twilight is usually compared to it more now.

Either way Harry Potter OWNs the rest of them.
Far more entertaining!

I love them both, but if I could only take one set to a desert island, it'd be Harry Potter.

I'm looking at it in terms of the influence they've had too. I mean, fantasy novels became a force after Tolkien because he created such a rich and diverse world in his novels, forming new languages as well. They were important and influential in the development of literature. Having said that, Harry Potter is just such great fun and has so many fully developed characters, rather than individuals who are prisoners of the narrative which is often the case in Tolkien's world - but yeah, he's all about mythology, whereas Potter is more immediate to our times. It's difficult.

Yeah, I mean, there's no doubt LOTRs is fantastic and it's obvious the amount of work Tolkien put into it. But I have to say I just enjoy Harry Potter a teeny tiny bit more

They're great page turners and I love watching them, but I also have to applaud the scope of Tolkien's universe. She's a good writer too actually.

No, well my son has only just started learning to read so he hasn't read any books yet

My daughter loves reading but she saw the films before she got into books

well, my daughter was only 1 when the first one was released so there was a fair chunk of them out before she learned to read.

My step daughter is into the Twilight series (booo) and she read all the books first. I bought her Anne Rices Vampire Chronicles and she's reading them right now

Thank God! I watched the second one in the hope that it would get better and I'd suddenly realise what all the fuss was about but no, it's even worse than the first one.

I watched the first one on the plane going to Oz last year but I haven't seen the 2nd, not much desire to either

Bram stokers Dracula is brilliant, I wasn't too keen on Interview with the Vampire because I'd read the book and I was disappointed with the film especially having Tom Cruise as Lestat

She loved him as Lestat though. I thought he was good, although I haven't read the book so can't really argue with you on this! Are they worth reading?

Is the film with Stuart Townsend worth watching or should I just read it?
