For the last 5 years, Jennifer Love Hewitt's character, Melinda Gordon, on 'Ghost Whisperer' has communicated with the dead in order to help them complete unfinished business. Now it appears that she's finally come across the one corpse that's beyond help -- that of her own show.

Yes, it's sad but true: 'Ghost Whisperer' is officially done for, according to a statement released by the show's producers to the Hollywood Reporter. The series, which was a co-production between CBS Television and ABC Studios, was canceled by CBS earlier this spring, opening the door for partner ABC to swoop in and save the day, ABC did say in May 2010 that they were interested in taking on Ghost Whisperer for another series, to the delight of many fans but Instead, it appears they decided to drive a stake through its heart.

Here's the full statement from executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander:

"After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce 'Ghost Whisperer' will not be returning for a sixth season. We've had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved. We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future."

Of course, the trend-du-jour right now is to have a final movie or event to tie up loose ends; recently canceled fan favorites 'Heroes' and 'Law & Order' are reportedly working on specials. So will 'Ghost Whisperer' do the same? We certainly hope so, but so far there hasn't been any word.

I remember making a thread ages ago like 'YAY ABC will bring this back' but now they have decided not to.

I sure do hope they do a movie, I want to know what happens with everything with the shadowlands and that.

They need to wrap it all up and send it out with a bang.
Make a movie CBS or ABC or whoever, put it in the cinema and make some cash of that and give it a good send off.

I also am annoyed they said in July 2009 there would be a Ghost Whisperer: The Shadowlands PC Game released in September 2010...

Big Brother, X Factor, The Real Hustle, Waterloo Road, Ghost Whisperer and probably I'm A Celebrity... are all being axed.

Well dude, it's 2010.. worst year ever, not surprised this is coming to an end - not that I watch it, but yeah 2010 is destined to upset people. Thank god it's ending soon. Long live 2011!
