Unhappy My Baby Cousin Has Just Been Rushed To Hospital :(

I was just sitting lieing on my bed when I woke up there now and then I heard the phone going and my mum answering, didn't think much of it.

Until I heard her literally screaming she was like 'What? Kaiden?'

Kaiden is my little cousin:

Spoiler:

thats him last halloween and that's my hand beside him

I literally bolted down the stairs and asked what was wrong.

He was just rushed to hospital in am ambulance with an epileptic fit, which is the same thing mine [and his] Granddad, died with back in 2007.

I'm actually so worried, this is the first time I've properly cried for anyone that's been sick or has died, because I know there's basically a chance he's going to die and he's just only passed his first birthday

He only lives around the corner and I literally spend about 2 hours a day round in that house with him, and now I won't be able to do that anymore.

I had to sort of let that out because I didn't want to write it on Facebook incase it upsetted anyone else that knows him.

Do you think there's a bigger chance he'll die because he's only a baby there for he's defenceless to fight back?

For ****** SAKE!
This is actually Karma for me making that thread about Ronnie's Baby.

Oh No Patrick, sorry.

But please take a deep breath and calm down. It's too premature to panic this way. Maybe it would help you if you read a bit more about epilepsy and infants?

Don't know much about it, but you mentioned it came to the worst only when your grans were older.

Patrick take a deep breath and calm down - I know that's really hard because I had a similar situation last year when my 8 month old grandson was rushed to hospital with septicaemia and it was touch and go he would pull through, but he did. It was the worst five days of my life and I didn't know it was possible to cry so much.

Babies are tougher than they look and the fact he was healthy and thriving before this is a very good sign - I'm sure the doctors will do all they can for him, it's really marvellous how paediatric care has improved massively in the past decade. My positive thoughts and wishes are with you, your family and your little baby cousin who, by the way, is absolutely adorable. I'm sure you'll be cuddling him and playing with him again very soon

Very sympathetic Jess :/
There are different severities of epilepsy you know.

Hope everything will be ok Paddy, my husbands niece has it too, it can be very tough, she's 12 now and is on an awful lot of medication. Keep us updated He's a really cute baby btw.

At least there were people there to help him straight away and that, like he wasn't alone for ages whilst it happened. So it will be likely there will be loads they can do for him.

And you're not serious about the Karma thing about the baby thread are you? :S

So sorry to hear this, Patrick.

I can only agree with angus58's post above ..... Kaiden is in the best possible place at the moment, and hopefully will start to improve very soon.

Please try and think positive thoughts.

Thanks for the messages guys, they were really helpful and kind of made me calmer.

My mum just came in now and told me they've sent him to Intensive Care, I didn't really know what that was but I've heard of it.

So I asked her and she basically said that's where you go when you're likely to die.
Which is abit...grim?

Does anyone know if he would be knocked out? Or if he would feel any of the stuff they're doing to him to help or if he'd feel the fit itself?

Intensive care is for serious serious cases Paddy but it doesn't mean he will die, alot of people come back out of there. I'm sure they will have him sedated so he won't feel much.

Intensive Care is exactly what it says, Patrick. It's the ward where the most intensive, expert care is given, using highly specialist equipment and staffed with the most experienced doctors and nurses. Once the patient has been stablilised in Intensive Care, they're then moved to either a High Dependency Unit or a general ward.

My mum was in Intensive Care with breathing difficulties and a heart problem for a couple of days last November - after 2 days there she was moved to a High Dependency bed for another couple of days, then 3 days in a general ward. She's now home and doing really well.

Thinking of you and your family ...... let us know how Kaiden gets on.

They'll be doing all they can for him Patrick and yeah he won't feel anything, although due to his age I don't know if they'll use what they would use on an adult but they certainly wouldn't put him through any pain in hospital. Just keep thinking positive thoughts, epilepsy can be kept under control, I have a friend with epilepsy and his fits were so bad at one point but he got enough control over it to sit his driving test and pass (although he had a relapse because he was in a weird sleeping pattern at uni and it set his epilepsy off basically by not being in a steady routine and ended up having a fit when driving which is pretty scary to think about, he could well have died, but he was fine - gets his licence back in summer) so it's not the end of the world that he has had an epileptic fit, they can do things for most people with epilepsy. Some people even grow out of it, it's just something that affects them in childhood. Keep us posted and keep your head up Patrick!

What? As a patient - because with an attitude like the one you are showing here - I doubt you'd last long in the real world speaking to people that way, without someone giving you a leathering.

Patrick - the little one is in the best place right now, try not to worry too much at this stage (easier said than done).

Oh my god Patrick i am so sorry :'(
i hope he gets better <3 Having fit doesn't always mean they will die, both my sister and my brother had a fit when they were that age, and they are fine, so don't worry to much.

And i'm always on here and facebook if you need to talk. xx
