Fighting the PC Culture

From what I've read, this is a relatively new song for many people in the UK who were unaware of its existance before the X-factor or Glee. Based on this song's performance last year in the UK charts one would be amazed that it's a 30 year old song and the singer has not yet passed away. There even was a show in the UK (before it got cancelled) called Don't Stop Believing. Anyways, I've found several clips from the past year and it seems the song has finally taken the UK by storm...
I was always aware of this song as it was a huge hit in the States when it came out in 1982. But it flopped in the UK when it came out in 1982. So why is it the Brits like the song all of a sudden? Last edited by Liberty4eva; 26-02-2011 at 12:45 PM. |

I think it's to do with the Glee remake. Then most people heard the original again. I, personally, can't stand it.

I despise it, It got big again because Glee introduced it to a new generation. It happens with a lot of old songs that are covered by younger artists.

I can't stand it, although it's said to have been an unofficial geordie (city of Newcastle) anthem for years.

I noticed it first in Family Guy. Wasn't aware of it before because Journey are just your average American MOR band.

I saw another clip where x factor winner Joe McSomething sang "Open Arms" by Journey and Simon said nobody knows that song. That amazed me because it was considered Journey's most successful song in the 80s. Now all that's missing is someone to sing "faithfully", my fav Journey song.
Congratulations Britain, you've finally entered the 80s. ![]() |

There was a campaign to get the Journey version to number 1, that was probably after Glee though, I suppose it was them who made it big here. I do actually quite like the song

The Smiths, The Cure, Joy Division, The Clash, Bowie, Kate Bush, not to mention all the Human League / Eurythmics / Yazoo stuff. Much better than, um, Journey and...Bon Jovi? -shrug-

I know it from The Sopranos finale... it's so overplayed, I'd say every other night out I go on some twat DJ puts it on at the end of the night, for the past year at least I've just left the club if it's come on, I hate hearing it now.
