Arrow Do you feel sorry for Africa?

This only applies to the Northern countries with the starving people. I know its a touchy subject but I didnt know where else to post it.

Basically, I think the whole thing about the UK trying to get Africa out of poverty is stupid and worthless. Africa will never get out of poverty. The UK spend more money on Africa than any other country in Europe ..and what for? If some child has to walk 80 miles to get some water, why cant the African people just move closer to the water? Their houses arnt exactly cement blocks...

They keep having children and WE have to pay for their children? How does that work? We have our own problems to worry about here alone. They should just give all the male babies the snip or give woman a caecerian (or whatever) to stop them reproducing more and more children who have NO chance of a good life. Its such a shame!

All of my family think the same, but what do you think?

Im sorry if this offended anyone but its one of the very few things I feel strongly about.

I don't feel sorry for Africa, or any of the political institutions in Africa.

I feel sorry for Africans.

I was talking to my friend the other day about reincarnation, and how i would dread it if it were real. She asked why? and i said, because what if i'm reincarnated in Africa or Asia?

Reincarnation scares the **** out of me.

That's a pretty good point actually never thought about that before

I think I'd have to go over there and see what it's actually like to feel truly sorry for them.

Jesus, I don't know where to start with what's wrong with that OP.

Seriously you might it sound like they choose to starve, like they're happy to have a kid die from starvation every 5 minutes. Do you have any idea as to why they're so poor? They're not just inherently incapable of living without huge poverty and no they can't just "move nearer to water", that's an incredibly ignorant thing to say

I'm only on my iPod right now, I'll give a full post tomorrow but yes of course I feel sorry for Africa, it would just be.. inhuman not to

Well why should we have to support them? They offer nothing to us. Survival of the fittest, and we need to look out for our own country when needed, like now with the riots.

Doesn't help that the Pope and Catholicism frowns upon contraception (although I'm sure they've changed tune recently to some kind of "well okay but we'll still judge you lol" approach).

Yeah those damn blacks just roll around starving and doing nothing, how selfish of them(!)

We should support them because it's not nice to watch people die from starvation in their millions when we do actually have the means to prevent it. Come on, you'd really not want to give up a few pennies if it meant you could actually save someone's life? They're people like you and me, they just didn't have the luck to get born in a western country where we have everything handed to us on a plate

I think it's heartbreaking to see starving people, and babies with flies on them. So I avoid them, I switch off, or change the station.

I don't have the ability to help them at the moment, and it'd do me no good feeling crap about myself and the world for the whole day.

In the future, if I have more than I need to survive, I'll think more about it.

Even if we do send contraception, it's not easily available to the most sparse regions of countries where the problem is at it's worst. Plus they have high numbers of kids, because there's a high infant mortality rate, the more children you have the increased probability that one of them is gonna make it to adulthood and be able to care for their parents/farm the land to provide some source of income

Yes I feel sorry for the plight of lots of African people.

I also feel sorry for people who go to the NHS asking for a procedure they not only dont know how to spell but havent a clue what its for. Kind of reminds me of the old joke of a man waking up after an operation and says that me castration done what were you in for? Circumcission came the reply. Ah bollocks thats the word I was looking for.

The whole thread is so wrong. I lived in Asia and on school trips we would visit people poverty in Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam and build houses/schools for them, little children there are so grateful for everything they get and love to learn in their schools made out of mud and do not complain at all. I can imagine Africa is even worse. Seeing poverty first hand and seeing joy on peoples faces by the simplest things is actually touching. This thread makes me disgusted.

We should help them because we are one species and just because we are divided by country doesn't make anyone better than another. People over here take too much for granted, all those rioters ruining businesses for no reason, I say ship them over to Africa and bring all the little kids with so much potential over here.

No I'm not bored of them - it's just I'm bored of the television Ads, the constant funding for them every year and the whole 'PLEASE DONATE EVERYTHING YOU CAN IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE'.

It's like sorry, but we're not in the best state at the moment in this country - I mean fair enough, our problems are more 'Oh Damn I can't afford Petrol FFS' and there's is more 'Ah No Braw, I can't afford Water!'.

So I know the difference, It's just like - it's the same old Comic Relief bullsh*t and the same old charities always asking for our money EVERY ******ING YEAR - surely if it was making any differenced and if all our money was going to them, by now we'd see some ******ing improvement on their county?

But we haven't.

Every May it's still the same old depressing adverts with a kid with a fly on his nose, looking at the camera really sad - and I do feel bad for the guy obviously, I have nothing against Africans.

I love black people - it's just the way companies try to use them every year - that bugs me.

Well not with attitudes like that we won't. But even if we don't completely rid Africa of poverty it's still worth trying to spare that misery for some people if we can, some African countries have come a long way in recen years but still a lot of them are plagued by famine, disease, corrupt governments, civil war etc. Etc.

And let's not forget our role in making these countries how they are through centuries of Imperialism and still we refuse to cancel massive and unpayable debts that are owed by the third world

You do realise companies arent trying to use them they're trying to help them. Opinions like this sicken me, i'd just pray the tables are never turned on you some day and someone out there spoke like that of you. Its not like they asked to be born into a life of poverty an starvation. And do you realise how much money it would actually cost to help these people out? its nothing compared to whats been donated so far, they keep asking because they need the money its nothing to do with exploitation.

I feel sorry for starving africans, not for the country itself.

And this whole donating argument, it would have helped a lot more had the african governments not squandered it all. And are still doing the same thing, not much...if any of the money people donate actually goes to help those who need it. Hence why I dont donate, Im not naive.

I am always wary of giving to charity as i don't believe most of the money is actually used for Africa i'd rather do something where i can witness something being done which is pretty hard unless you volunteer to work or help out there i still give quite a big amount of money each month to Moni Malawi though
