Does the amount of pages put you off joining in a thread?

Something I've noticed about myself is if I'm in the BB forum (for example) and a thread has more than 3 pages, I rarely look. But if it's a newly started thread and I can get to grips with it from the off I'm there. 1 page to 50 pages - all the way!

Does a certain amount of pages, or threads and their amount of pages, put you off? Or don't you care and will just stick your two penneth in at the end?

If it already has more than a page then I usually can't be bothered reading all the posts so won't bother posting

Yeah because i usually think someone has said something i am going to say in a long thread so don't really bother

Yeah definitely, I was thinking this earlier, if I see a thread is already a few pages long I often think the discussion will already have progressed too far and I can't be bothered to read it all through and think there's not much point giving my input now

Depends on the thread I suppose. Sometimes I just like to have my say regardless, other times I take one glance then find something more interesting to read.

Yes, if I go into a thread and see it with loads of pages I think "Great I've missed some big discussion, no point joining in now, I'll just seem like one of those failures who turn up 5 hours late for a party"

There are certain threads, the live ones (X Factor/BB) and chat ones for example where you can just jump in but others.... nope

Yes, I don't bother reading let alone posting, especially when there are members who aren't happy unless they have the last word and the discussion never ends.

Another thing that puts me off posting in a thread is when members like Shasown or Stu are in a massive debate writing an essay each for every single post in the thread.. and you think " **** this "

Not really, I quite like long threads. Although sometimes if I see that a thread has like 5+ pages and I haven't even read a single post yet I might pass on it. Lots of the serious debates I skim read or sometimes just skip pages because most of the posts are huge paragraphs.

In answer to the inital question - depends very much on what the subject is - but agree with what most have said here. Though the flip side is: sometimes reading through them, you catch some brilliant banter back and forth between folks.

Anyone who attempts to cross Stu is pretty brave. Even if you know you're right he'll still manage to destroy your points. I'd hate to argue with him in real life where you don't have Google at your disposal

Sometimes I cant be bothered reading through them if they are too long so I just avoid it, the worst thing though is getting a report from a long thread that I haven't been following and having to quickly read through it all to find out whats been going on.

If they have 0 replies and have been there a while I tend to ignore them, as obviously if it contained anything of interest then someone else would have posted.

If it has something ridiculous like 40 pages(which is rare for here) I read the current page then post.

If it has like 5 pages I usually read the whole thing.

I prefer threads with 10-30 replies...
