Default should false accusation mean long prison sentence?

loads of false accusations get thrown around

sometimes for money, some for revenge, some because people are sick etc

false accusations destroy the life of the falsely accused and the persons reputation and destroy that persons family, their children, their parents and ruin their careers too

the false accuser makes it worse for those who make legitimate accusations

in addition it wastes police time , costs a fortune and means they have less time and perhaps less appetitite to take up such cases in the future as they become more cynical to accusations

in the end everyone suffers massively from false accusation , everyone, even the tax payer

perhaps its time the law came down harder on this crime?

I honestly think if people make stuff up to try and get at others and are caught out, they should recieve the exact same sentence as the victim of the lie would have got had they been found guilty.

THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN BRUSHED UNDER THE CARPET for fear of the radical feminist movement, the trouble is not only does this issue destroy mainly mens lives, but it also destroys womens lives too, parents, grandparents, sons and daughters, everyone gets destroyed by false accusations. especially as the law says the accuser is anonymous and the accused is named and shamed regardless of guilt. in this media day and age, the men accused are destroyed lose their homes and their families are destroyed regardless of guilt or innocence. yet this issue is constantly ignored? time for our politicians to grow a set and sort out this anomally, a man or woman is innocent until proven guilty, this is the very essence fo what our society is about. the trials by media and kangaroo courts will ultimately destroy democracy as good men are destroyed by their enemies

No, because it's first and foremost the job of the COURT to decide who is guilty or not guilty. So you would also have to punish the JUry and Judge that convicted the person wrongly too. We can't start putting Jurys and Judges in jail too for getting it wrong.

I agree Vicky, especially people that lie about being raped as that makes what's already a hard crime to convict someone even harder when a genuine case comes along.

utter rubbish (no offence)

the judge and jury are not lying their merely judging
the accuser creates the case, if he or she lies and makes up the accusation, thats a crime, its perjury and destroys many lives. yet its not been treated harshly in the last 20 years as the laws became liberalised in favour of the woman accuser, suppposedly to make it easier for her. its ill thought out brain dead nonsense. its unfair imbalance and ruins the whole system. these false accusers must be treated very harshly and sented to several years imprisonment. this will save the tax payer millions and also punish the false accusers and make the system better for those genuine victims and genuine accusers. then we may see justice for all

Eh I don't agree about them getting the exact same sentence, I don't think you can compare being accused of a crime such as rape with actually being the victim of it, and I don't think you can compare carrying out a crime a like that to just making the false accusation

not the same, but its an horrific crime to falsely accuse someone of rape or any major crime....your last sentence is a disgrace , the word JUST aking false accusations is absurd...JUST? as if its trivial ? youre talking about destroying a persons entire life, the whole family, their careers, their reputations, any have committed suicide through the enormous shame and strain of being falsely accused. these false accusers should be locked up for several years. its an horrific crime

I agree with Vicky, falsely accusing someone of rape can ruin a persons life, even if they're not found guilty, things like that stick

Not saying it's trivial but actually carrying out a rape is worse than wrongly accusing someone of it imo, it's also worth remembering that those who are falsely accused are more often than not vindicated by the courts proclaiming them innocent, those who actually suffer from rape find it far harder to secure justice because it's such a low statistic of rape cases which actually make it to courts and end in a guilty verdict, it's only 5%
