There seems to be a lot of hate for Jack Caroll all over the place....It totally mystifies me....He tailored his material and his unique delivery for the show.
Some thought it was wrong of him to laugh at his own health problems, such as his "Im told Ive got funny bones, don't laugh its a serious medical condition"....his opening line in the semis "simmer down, you don't cheer when I take your parking spaces at tescos"...."Ive done reality tv, I audtioned for strictly but they haven't come back, brucie doesn't think its for kids"""... other topical stuff like"theyre replacing cowell as a judge next year with north koreas dictator, but they wont let him press the red button, theyre very similar, one forces crocodile tears from his subjects, the other is a communist dictator.... his last gag he says "Ive recently started collecting for the charity scope.....he waves a £20 note.....but then I figured Id cut out the middle man and keep the money" ![]() Comedy is subjective of course....I think he's a genius. I also think people who gloss over how brave it is for a 14 year old in a wheelchair to do stand up comedy (sit down as he calls it) are missing the point. 1) try doing stand up anywhere 2) try doing it in a wheelchair and with cerebral palsey I found his thoroughly likeable and professional beyond his years...Ultimately he will be judged like all comics on its funniness and I think his jokes were all superb and his delivery was even better. Id happily buy a tickt to his gigs |

I did like him but I thought there were better acts than him in the final, I wouldn't have chosen him for 2nd place

Likes cars that go boom

It makes me furious, seriously why would anyone be so evil as to rip down a young man like this? he is a true inspiration to all....
By polishing his talent he could be a comedy great, well observed and tenacious.

I just didn't find his act funny at all, his Tom Jones act on the final was horrific and some of the love for him was very patronising.

who were your faves? I thought the main reason francene didn't get closer to winning is because the people she choose to impersonate were a bit limited and not particularly interesting or likeable.....Jordan, amy childs etc If she did a few more interesting varied people she may go a long way, great talent.

Yeah, it was all way too far. Fine if you didn't enjoy his act but to rip him apart when he's only 14 was disgraceful.
Just goes to show, judging by those comments that prejudice is still alive and kicking against disabled people. I don't think I realised myself just how much they have to put up with until my brother was born with CP. But we'll always have those kinds of lowlife, we just have to ignore it. |

Oh no it'd be unfair of me to say I disliked his whole act, over the course of the show he had a fair couple that made me smile, it was more of his tired ones like 'I knew that wasn't my cup of tea' and stuff that was just like urgh, he had his moments, but as a whole, he wasn't for me, nice enough kid though.

1) the physical pain. its huge and it varies all the time 2) the medication. he just wants to play but hes got to be a scientist too 3) the inability to do so many things he wants to do 4) the struggle to keep up with school work, friends, ambitions, peer pressure 5) simple things like access to buildings, toilets etc 6) endless over-priced disabled goods and products 7) the abuse he gets , some treat him well, some patronize, but as we see with jack carroll once a disabled person tries to do anything , they get hammered I think disabled issues have been buried behind other hot topic issues like fox hunting, gay marriage, endless trivial feminist issues like men calling them dear and such nonsense.....I do compare because these other minority discrimination issues seem to get infinitely more coverage than disabled issues now we see millions hammered by the tory government. Its time the government actually re-focused on disabled issues.....we will all one day suffer a disability. its time we really addressed it properly and prioritised it ahead of these other less urgent less complex issues anyways back to jack , I thought he was terrific |

And hopefully without sounding insensitive, you'd think David Cameron would be a little more understanding of the whole situation considering what he went through with his son. But compassion is something they seem to struggle with. The Thatcher mindset still seems to prevail in many areas. But what irritated me more, and I had to stop reading DS because of it, was almost the presumption that Jack either had to be disabled or a comedian. Because he was disabled he was immediately only liked "because people felt sorry for him". God forbid a disabled person is actually complimented for having a talent. "simmer down you don't cheer when I take your parking spots at tescos " etc some gags like the its not my cup of tea were smart yes that was pretty average fare but well delivered and good for a family audience .....his gag about the Olympics leaving a legacy like Greece was smart and topical...also.."simon cowell will buy the stadium, hes looking to downsize.......re horse scandal "horses for courses is now horses for main courses.....if a horse breaks a leg don't put them down, put them in the Paralympic dressage......Ive turned down doing adverts I hate when comics do that , it makes me sick, that's why I use barkers sickness tablets.......they tell me Ive got funny bones.....Its a very serious medical condition actually..." Now BGT is just a 5 minute skit, but its very hard and very few comics have done well on this show over the years.....for a 14 year old to do it, with stiff competition and 10 million viewers, to get second place (behind the pretty brilliant and original attraction) is just brilliant and an inspiration frankly to everyone especially disabled kids. whether he gets a long term career is hard to say.....being a comic must be hard work always looking for new material always being topical yet original always facing the wrath of the crowd....most comics are heroes imho Last edited by the truth; 10-06-2013 at 02:31 PM. |

He only got so far in the competition due to his disability in my honest opinion.
I didn't find him remotely funny, even the jokes about his disability.

Because YOU didn't find Jack funny it means he wasn't? People have different tastes, a varying sense of humour. Would you like to share why you have this honest opinion? I suppose in some aspect you could say he ended up on BGT because of his disability, because it was said disability that motivated him to become a comedian, that made him the person he is. But I don't see how that is different to anyone else disabled or not. Had I had a completely different upbringing I may not have been interested in design. Not to mention plenty comedians suffer from depression (Jack Dee IIRC), which motivates their comedy. Last edited by Marsh.; 10-06-2013 at 02:33 PM. |

so you really think everyone just laughed and picked up phones to vote just because he was disabled? if that's the case why haven't other disabled people won or come second in the 100s of other talent contests?
